Due to the House Reconciliation bill (H.R.1) being signed into law, significant changes will be made to Medicaid qualifications in the coming months. The following major changes will take effect:

- Many non-citizens will no longer be eligible for Medicaid coverage effective October 1st, 2026.

- Most adults ages 19-64 will be recertified for Medicaid every six months instead of once a year.

- Most adults ages 19-64 will have to show they participated in an approved activity, such as work, school, or volunteer to be able to qualify or keep their Medicaid coverage effective January 1st, 2027.

Notices will be going out over the next month regarding these changes, please be sure to check your mail for these communications. If you have any questions, please call DSS at 828-426-8200.
