Homeowners in North Carolina are getting hit from all sides: higher costs, denied claims and canceled policies. And now, today, June 1, homeowners’ insurance rates jump 7.5%.

In the face of this, Republican lawmakers have done nothing to protect the homeowners they represent. Representatives Chuck Edwards and Greg Murphy have repeatedly voted down disaster-preparedness and climate protections that could lower risk and cut costs, yet they’ve taken nearly $100,000 from property insurance and oil and gas interests.

This has been your friendly reminder to vote Democrat this November.

Join us to pack the gallery at the legislature in Raleigh!

The NC Senate is set to vote Wednesday at 11 a.m. on a “right to work” constitutional amendment. Don’t be misled: right-to-work has been law in North Carolina since 1947, and federal law already bars mandatory union membership. This amendment would not create any new protections for workers. What it does do is give Republicans another divisive political issue to put on the ballot, because they are worried that Democratic turnout will be high this year.

We’re packing the NCGA gallery as a visible reminder to lawmakers of who they’re supposed to work for: the voters. We’re watching, and we will hold them accountable.

Bring a neighbor. Fill a seat.

Michael Whatley is a man who had a bench warrant out for his arrest for dodging court for traffic violations, used to be a lobbyist for some of the worst offenders of non-renewable energies, and has been behind the push to cut Medicaid funds. We need representatives who care about our people, our environment, and the law.

As the North Carolina Helene Recovery Czar, Michael Whatley watched quietly while Trump delayed critically needed money for infrastructure repair. Now that Trump wants to pay the people who stormed the Capitol, Whatley thinks it's a good use of taxpayer money.
