On the surface, DEI seems like it's lifting people who don't "deserve" it. But, the reality is that DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) ensures that we're lifting people up equally.

A number of companies who eliminated DEI then made choices that backfired on them because they didn't have a variety of people around to share ideas and have a discussion that wasn't just an echo chamber. DEI breeds new ideas, so shutting it down just means stagnation.

Sick of Destin trying to stop progress in North Carolina (even down to procrastinating on the state budget for almost 2 years)? Vote for his opponent, Iris Bender for NC. Knock doors with us, make calls, donate money... DEI in North Carolina's legislature doesn't happen because those positions aren't hired; they're elected. And we can do better than Destin.

Bravery can look like a lot of things, but it absolutely looks like admitting loudly and proudly that you're a Democrat or left-leaning independent in areas like ours.

Thanks to today's canvassing team for hitting the road to knock doors around the county to make sure people are heard and to give them information to ensure they're comfortable voting this year!

We're packing canvassing materials for today's canvass. If you can't join us today at 9am to go get this info out into the community, we're doing this every weekend until it's election time. (You can also contact us about getting training and canvassing materials to canvass your own neighborhood at your own leisure.)

Canvassing continues to be the best way to get this information out to swing voters and it also has an impact on people who tend to vote in presidential elections and then skip the midterms. Sign up information in the comments!

Michael Whatley wants you to win with him, but we want to make sure we understand what that means.

Is it being appointed to a prominent role in North Carolina's Helene recovery and dropping the ball repeatedly?

Is it claiming that there was massive fraud during the 2020 elections even though no courts found any evidence of any wrongdoing while also promoting NC elections as a model of election vigilance only for NC Republicans to turn around and say our BoE needed more interference from them?

Is it that he repeatedly associated with a registered s*x offender who had pled guilty to five counts of taking indecent liberties with a child?

Is it the 4 failures to appear and the 4 guilties in absentia he's had in traffic court for 14 cases between NC and Virginia - or even the bench warrant given for one of those failures to appear?

Is it the promotion of him being a truck-driving everyman while actually paying to use a private jet owned by yet another felon, this one convicted of defrauding the federal government?

Is it how he's been complicit in trying to cover up the Epstein Files?

If nothing else, North Carolina isn't winning in any of these situations.

We are fed up with the recent data center surge that will drive up our energy bills even more. We need leaders who will stand up and put a stop to the rapid growth of data centers – and it’s become crystal clear who won’t.

U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley claimed our community’s alarm over data centers is fake. He called our opposition to data centers “not organic” – this is a slap in the face when North Carolinians across the state are stressed about the rising cost of living and frustrated that we are getting stuck with higher energy bills. Local communities should decide where data centers go, and our outrage and concerns are very real.

It’s no wonder that Whatley has up to $1.6 million personally invested in the data center industry while saying he supports tax handouts for data centers. What a surprise - more data center developments means Whatley gets richer.

Whatley can’t represent us in the U.S. Senate while having such a blatant conflict of interest.

Tell Michael Whatley: Put NC families ahead of your bottom line. Sell your stock in data center companies.

You can sign this petition asking Whatley to divest from data centers: https://www.change.org/p/call-on-u-s-senate-candidate-michael-whatley-to-sell-his-stock-in-data-center-companies

But, more importantly, you can help us work to make sure Whatley never makes it to the Senate in the first place.

Call on U.S. Senate Candidate Michael Whatley to Sell His Stock in Data Center Companies

Lenoir will benefit in the form of Abbington Overlook containing 60 new multi-family affordable housing units thanks to this effort by Governor Josh Stein. While no exact information has been released on the details of the units, they are intended to be financially accessible for at least the next 30 years.

On Tuesday, Gov. Josh Stein (D) announced funding for new affordable rental properties across 10 western North Carolina counties.

The more than $69 million from the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program will go toward building 828 units in the region, which is still recovering from Hurricane Helene.

The new housing units funded by the federal grant will be located in Ashe, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cleveland, Haywood, Henderson, Rutherford, Transylvania, and Watauga counties.
