Effective Saturday, March 28 at 8 a.m., the National Weather Service has issued a ** 🚩🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩🚩** for some North Carolina counties. For counties that aren’t under a red flag, fire danger is still critical. Review weather alerts for North Carolina at weather.gov.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create dangerous fire behavior.

While open burning is permitted during a red flag, it is NOT advised. Please postpone ALL outdoor burning. If there was ever a time to show you can follow instructions the first time they are given, it’s now.

Careless debris burning is the leading cause of wildfires in North Carolina, and you are our best defense against wildfire. For wildfire readiness and prevention tips: preventwildfirenc.org

A statewide burning ban goes into effect at 6:00 PM today

North Catawba Fire Rescue wishes all residents of our fire district a happy and prosperous 2026.
With gratitude for the community’s support in 2025, Chief Randy Swanson wishes to share department accomplishments and outlines priorities for the year ahead.

Our mission at NCFR remains unchanged heading into the New Year. — Our main goal is to protect life, property, and the environment through fire suppression, emergency medical response, and fire prevention education,” said Chief Swanson.

Some 2025 accomplishments we saw this past year:
NCFR members trained all year long for a combined number of training hours 4,162. This includes not only fire training hours but medical training and specialty courses as well. Ie: rescue, hazardous material along with fire leadership classes as well several members working on Associate and Bachelor degrees.

Congratulations are in order to 3 members receiving their NC EMT certification as well.
Harriss Inman, Elex Crump, Jacob Gullet

NCFR also responded to 1512 calls throughout the year
58 Fires
1064 Rescue and EMS
368 Calls for service
22 Hazardous Conditions

With the start of a new year it is a good time to discuss fire safety with your family, escape routes and gathering points outside the home in the event of a fire.
