Hibriten Trail

The trail to the summit begins at a parking area near the end of Hibriten Mountain Road. The parking area is a gravel area on the right. From there, travel on foot until you reach the gravel road (about 150 yards from the parking area). There will be a yellow gate that you must go around. The summit is about 2.5 miles from this point.

The views at the summit look both West and North toward Burke, Watauga, and Wilkes Counties. There are various side trails where you will find a cave and other features to be explored. The road to the summit is gravel from start to end with some sections that feature more dirt than gravel and others that feature more larger sized gravel than normal.

Pack out what you pack in. There are no bathrooms or trashcans on this trail, so please plan accordingly. A recommendation is to go with someone else and carry a phone unless you are an avid hiker and are prepared for the unknowns that can often come up while hiking such as weather, etc.

Most importantly, get outdoors and enjoy nature that is often the centerpiece of Lenoir. Hibriten is often known for the Star and the Cross, but it is also a popular place to exercise, and offers views and overlooks that are often enjoyed only in neighboring mountain counties.
