Situational Awareness Statement: Strong Winds and Heavy Rains Tonight, March 16, 2026
The National Weather Service and MEMA Agency Meteorologist are forecasting strong to damaging winds across the Commonwealth today along with periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms. Southerly winds gusts of 45 to 60 mph tonight can be expected, with the strongest gusts up to 70 mph in eastern MA being possible between 10pm tonight and 4am tomorrow morning. Rain amounts of 1-3 inches with localized higher amounts may result in minor to moderate river flooding.

According to the Massachusetts Emergency management Agency (MEMA), these weather conditions may cause tree damage and power outages. MEMA states that minor river flooding and street flooding is also possible.
