Situational Awareness Statement: Strong Winds and Heavy Rains Tonight, March 16, 2026

The National Weather Service and MEMA Agency Meteorologist are forecasting strong to damaging winds across the Commonwealth today along with periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms. Southerly winds gusts of 45 to 60 mph tonight can be expected, with the strongest gusts up to 70 mph in eastern MA being possible between 10pm tonight and 4am tomorrow morning. Rain amounts of 1-3 inches with localized higher amounts may result in minor to moderate river flooding.
Flood Watch- Continuing through 3/17/2026 8:00 AM for Middlesex Worcester, and other counties.
Wind Advisory from 3/16/2026 2:00 PM to 3/17/2026 11:00 AM for Middlesex, Worcester, and other counties.
According to the Massachusetts Emergency management Agency (MEMA), these weather conditions may cause tree damage and power outages. MEMA states that minor river flooding and street flooding is also possible.
If you experience a power outage at your home (including house, condo, or apartment) or Business, it is important to notify Natl Grid as soon as possible. In this way Natl Grid can schedule a repair crew to address and fix the issue.

An updated weather forecast predicts more rain and sleet than snow for this incoming winter storm tonight and tomorrow (Friday 6 March 2026).

Weather forecasts indicate cold and freezing rain, at times turning to snow with up to 2 inches of snowfall.

Freezing rain will make for icy road conditions, and downed tree limbs are possible.

Tomorrow, City Hall will be closed but anyone seeking information can call City Hall at 978-534-7500. They can also call Leominster Emergency Management at 978-534-7580.
The weather forecast is for blizzard conditions tomorrow starting early in the morning about 3am and continuing through the afternoon. We advise everyone to stay home and stay off the roadways as much as possible as driving conditions are forecast to be dangerous.
Leominster Emergency Management will open as a temporary shelter starting at midnight (12 am) until 8 am tomorrow morning.
According to the Utility Companies, widespread electric power outages are possible. If you lose electric power it is important to notify your electricity provider as soon as possible so that they can schedule repairs to your area.
