REAP - Resource Enhancement and Protection. A program in the State of Iowa that invests in, the enhancement and protection of the state's natural and cultural resources. REAP Assemblies are locally led public meetings at which information is given out and ideas are taken in by the attending state officials.

We are excited to welcome the Decatur County Soil & Water Conservation District to the 4th Annual Decatur County National Night Out!

The Decatur County SWCD will be on site with their Conservation Demonstration Trailer and will be available to answer questions about the services they provide to local landowners and our community.

The Conservation Station is part of Water Rocks! Outreach through Iowa State University. Water Rocks! is an award-winning statewide youth water education program that helps foster knowledge, caring, and engagement among Iowa’s youth. Through STEM and the arts, Water Rocks! challenges and inspires Iowans to have a greater appreciation of our water resources.

SWCD provides technical assistance, conservation planning, cost-share program information, and education to help reduce soil loss, improve water quality, and promote stewardship of our natural resources.

Decatur Co. SWCD - State cost share for Cover Crops through the State Water Quality Initiative (WQI) is now accepting applications. Stop by the NRCS office at 303 SW Lorraine in Leon for details. Cover crops must be planted with in accordance of NRCS planting guidelines.

Today, Deputy Secretary Grant Menke presented the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award on behalf of Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig to T-Boy Dairy in Decatur County. The award presentation was held in conjunction with during an event at the dairy near Weldon. Owners/operators Merlin Troyer and Austin Troyer oversee a farm that includes approximately 200 predominantly Holstein dairy cows, a small beef herd, and the production of corn, soybeans, and alfalfa. Congratulations to the Troyers!
