The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County join all St. Mary’s County Government employees in mourning the recent and untimely passing of former Commissioner Thomas H. “Tom” Jarboe on August 5, 2026.

Former Commissioner Jarboe served as the District 1 Commissioner from 2014 to 2018. A veteran of the United States Coast Guard, he devoted his life to serving St. Mary's County through leadership and public service.

In addition to his service as County Commissioner, Jarboe founded several local businesses and was recognized as the St. Mary's County Chamber of Commerce Businessperson of the Year in 2013. He also served with the Valley Lee Volunteer Fire Department and as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician with Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad,
Company 49.

Commissioner President James Randy Guy said "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tom Jarboe and recognize the profound loss this represents for our community. Tom dedicated his life to serving St. Mary's County in countless ways, and his commitment to this community will not be forgotten. On behalf of the Commissioners of St. Mary's County, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Shannon, his family, and his many friends during this difficult time."

In honor of Commissioner Jarboe’s dedicated service to the citizens of St. Mary’s County, Commissioner President Guy has ordered the Maryland State and St. Mary’s County Flags to be flown at half-staff in St. Mary’s County, effective immediately. The flags shall remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of former Commissioner Jarboe’s interment.

Registration is now open for Art Kids at St. Clement's Island Museum !

Each class encourages young artists to explore new materials, express their creativity, and discover how art can make a positive impact. Best of all, every participant will take home their own unique masterpiece!

📅 Session Dates:
• August 24–27, 2026
• September 14–17, 2026

💲 Cost: $7 per child
🎒 All art supplies are provided. Participants should bring a light snack.
