August is Child Support Awareness Month, recognizing the importance of ensuring children have the support and resources they need to thrive.

Members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division including Captain Richard Russell, Lieutenant Thomas Hedderich, Sergeant Robert Merritt, Corporal Chad Hartzell, and Deputy Patrick Handy, recently joined our partners from the St Mary's County Department of Social Services as the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County presented a proclamation recognizing Child Support Awareness Month.

The Sheriff’s Office is proud to work alongside our community partners throughout the year in support of St. Mary’s County children and families.

Thank you to the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County for recognizing this important work and the dedicated professionals who carry it forward each day.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today, we’re giving a little extra recognition to some very good dogs who also happen to have some very important jobs.

Meet the K-9s of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office: Groot, Kyra, River, Karma, Kane and Skar.

Alongside their handlers, these four-legged members of our team train hard and play an important role in helping keep St. Mary’s County safe. Whether they’re working, training or enjoying some well-earned downtime, each brings a unique personality, and plenty of enthusiasm to the job.

And because we know St. Mary’s County has plenty of good dogs at home, too, share a photo of your four-legged family member in the comments! 🐶📸
