Come to the Screening of “Views From A Woodlot” with Filmmaker Q&A on May 30 to watch an 18-minute film about the woodlot Leverett voted to accept as a future town forest.

Learn about forester Bruce Spencer and the low-impact forestry he has practiced on this Leverett woodlot for more than 40 years. The screening will be followed by a discussion about low-impact forestry and the challenges facing our forests today with Bruce, filmmaker Chris Hardee, and Leverett forester Eric Donnelly of Woodsmith Tree Services.

Following the library program, there will be a 3:00 p.m. guided forestry walk led by Spencer on the woodlot located at 353 North Leverett Road.

For 40 years, forester Bruce Spencer managed the state-owned, 100,000 acre Quabbin Reservoir in central Massachusetts for water quality and timber. If you are attending Town Meeting this Saturday, free childcare is available. Details below. As a reminder, the library will be closed on Saturday for everyone to attend this important annual event.

Sat May 2nd at Leverett Elementary School (LES)
Drop-off starts at 8:45am in the LES Afterschool room

Leverett’s annual town meeting (ATM) is this Saturday May 2nd, beginning at 9am in the LES Gymnasium. Participating in Town Meeting is where we make our voices heard on spending and other issues impacting Leverett, and we hope to see our school community there. To help make it easier for families to attend, the town voted to allocate funds from the FY26 budget to offer childcare during the meeting. Childcare will be provided by Laura and Susie Goodale, local certified child care providers who work at Sunrose Daycare in Leverett.

Details:
Who can participate: Care is available for children ages 2 and up
Location: LES Afterschool Room
Timing: Drop off starts at 8:45, care is available until ATM concludes.
Upon Arrival: Parent/guardians must sign-in

Please bring: A zippered bag/backpack labeled with your child’s name.
Include:
- Snacks/drinks
- Any necessary supplies
- Parent/guardian contact information
- Special instructions for caregivers, if needed

Please note:
- Parents/guardians must remain on the property during the meeting.
- In case the children go outside, please apply sunscreen beforehand if needed.
- Parents will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
