New Mainers Public Health Initiative

New Mainers Public Health Initiative NMPHI is a non-profit organization incorporated in Maine. NMPHI focuses on health awareness.

NMPHI focuses on these areas:

Increasing health information about the Maine Immigrants community to help better understand the community’s needs and healthcare barriers

Empowering New Mainers to overcome barriers to good healthcare by building on existing assets and strengths within the community

Building health care capacity within the Maine Immigrants community by forming a New Mainers Publi

c Health Initiative (NMPHI) Health Educators who will assist refugees and immigrants patients in accessing healthcare and who will impart key preventive health messages

Increasing the level of knowledge and awareness in the Maine Immigrants and refugee communities about key health issues and to improve overall access to healthcare

Increasing the cultural competence of healthcare providers with an emphasis on refugees’ and immigrants’ religions, traditions, and cultural beliefs and how these affect perceptions and expectations. Developing culturally appropriate health education materials to effectively communicate preventive health messages to the New Mainers

sharing resources and materials with health care providers, the New Mainers Public Health Initiative (NMPHI), and relevant agencies throughout Maine to increase overall awareness of the health of the refugees

Lewiston Issues Citywide Boil Water Order After Main Break
The city of Lewiston issued a citywide boil water order on Sunday, March 22, 2026, following a major water main break. Authorities are urging all residents to boil water for at least one minute at a rolling boil before any consumption.
The advisory applies to all uses involving ingestion, including drinking, cooking, washing food, brushing teeth, and making ice. Officials warn that the incident may have compromised the safety of the drinking water system.
Emergency crews are working to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore normal service. The order will remain in effect until further notice, pending water quality testing.
Residents are advised to remain cautious and follow official updates from local authorities.
