The Lewiston Police Department continues to seek new methods to communicate with the citizens and visitors of our community. Your police department employs 46 sworn officers and 22 civilians. LPD is responsible for providing law enforcement services to over 32,000 citizens of the City of Lewiston as well as nearly 150,000 visitors enjoying the recreational and business opportunities of our communi

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is celebrated annually during the second week of April. This week honors the "first" first responders; the unseen heroes under the headsets.

The Lewiston Police Department recognizes and celebrates the dedication of our dispatchers and call-takers this week. They manage chaos with steady hands and calm voices. They are a lifeline to both our citizens and our officers in times of need, and they play a vital role in our organization. Our community is safer because of their professionalism, compassion, and commitment.

We would like to take a moment to recognize National Animal Control Officer Week and give a well deserved shoutout to our own Animal Control Officer, Doug Willey.

National Animal Control Officer Week was first established in 1992 by the National Animal Care & Control Association to recognize the important and often overlooked work performed by animal control professionals across the country. It’s a chance each year to highlight the role they play in public safety, animal welfare, and community well-being.

He helps keep both our residents and animals safe, and he does it with professionalism and genuine care for the people and pets he serves.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Thain & Stewart Intersection Closure

Please be advised that the intersection of Thain Road and Stewart Avenue is currently closed due to an incident. The closure will remain in place until further notice.

Traffic is being rerouted around the area. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the intersection and use alternate routes if possible.

We will provide an update as soon as the intersection is reopened.

The Lewiston Police Department needs more registrations to hold this year’s Citizens Police Academy. If we don’t reach the minimum by Wednesday, February 25, the 2026 class will be canceled.

We are excited to launch our newest public outreach effort, 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙇𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙣 – 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙤𝙙𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙩, an extension of our Living Lewiston magazine and program guide, now bringing city stories straight to you!

Our first episode, “𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙖𝙙𝙜𝙚: 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙣 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝘼𝙘𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙮 & 𝙇𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙣’𝙨 𝙄𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜,” takes listeners inside the Lewiston Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy.
