We have some openings in the Fire Service Instructor 2 program!
Our office would like to thank State Fire Commissioner Bruce Trego for his years of dedication to the fire service and wish him well as he embarks on his retirement.
Commissioner Trego has served in multiple roles at the Office of the State Fire Commissioner since 2002, the most recent being Administrator of the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy in Lewistown.
He previously fulfilled roles as Assistant Administrator, Incident Management Team Program Manager, and Homeland Security Training Coordinator.
Bruce’s affiliation with the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy began in 1980 when he became a Local Level Instructor and an Adjunct Instructor in 1993. He has been involved in the fire service for more than 50 years and has served as Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief in the Lewistown Fire Department.
Please join us in congratulating the commissioner on his lengthy and meaningful career.
Congratulations on your retirement Commissioner Trego!
Congratulations on your appointment Acting Fire Commissioner Cook!
Students and instructors are arriving back home after two long days of Truck Academy 1 at the PSFA. Students were able to learn and hone their skills on day one before putting them to work in live fire and smoke on day two.
Congratulations Commissioner Trego!
The Adjunct Instructor Cadre for the flashover simulator are currently in East Butler for the weekend using the mobile simulator.
Did you know the academy is able to schedule flashover sessions around the state if you’re not able to make it to the permanent flashover trainer in Lewistown?

July 30-31, 2022 for 2022 PA Weekend
2021 PA Weekend is wrapping up! Thanks to the 136 students who made the trip. Mark your calendars for next year and share with your friends! We want to fill the NFA!
Thanks for having us U.S. Fire Administration and National Fallen Firefighters Foundation!
PA weekend at the U.S. Fire Administration National Fire Academy is in its final day. Last night, personnel from the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner conducted the annual LODD memorial at the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation memorial covering two years due to last year’s COVID-related cancellation of PA weekend.
Students will finish up day two of class and head out this afternoon back to Pennsylvania!
PA Weekend is just getting started at the U.S. Fire Administration National Fire Academy. Career and Volunteer Firefighters from across the state will be attending multiple 16-hour programs over the weekend.
SFA Covid Update #13
Yesterday wrapped up the Structure 3 and 4 programs which run concurrently at the State Fire Academy. Structure 3 students focus on tactical skills and operations at fires while the structure 4 class acts as the officers for each piece of apparatus, Safety officer, and command. The instructional staff has the best job of the week - planning emergencies and throwing wrenches into the plan to see how officers and firefighters handle the situation. Nothing is off limits for responses, and all the buildings on the grounds are in play! We’d tell you more, but we don’t want to give away our secrets for next year.

Coming to the PSFA March 31st to April 2nd - Flammable Liquid and Gas Firefighting! Most people probably assume they don't need it because they don't have industry in their area. The course will cover 3-dimensional fuel fires (like a ruptured and leaking fuel tank), compressed gas cylinder fires (like propane cylinders at a residential house), the use of extinguishers on flammable liquids and gasses, and foam usages including on ethanol blend and Bakken crude fuels. If it's fire you want, it's the most fire you'll see. It just happens to not be inside of a building this time! Join us March 31-April 2 for a great class!
