HES Summer School kicked off their first Friday Fun Day. Our day started with an investigative scavenger hunt to find a sneaky snack thief. The student-led PBS team hosted the first lemonade and popsicle stand at recess. All activities were created, planned, and run by students who completed 3rd and 4th grades this school year. These students are showing responsibility, problem solving, communication, and collaboration. Stay tuned for next week's fun!

ATTENTION SUMMER SCHOOL FAMILIES-
Due to the storms, heavy rains, and deteriorating road conditions all Summer School buses will be running hard surfaces only for Thursday (6/11) afternoon routes and Friday (6/12) morning and afternoon routes. Drivers will be reaching out to those families who are directly impacted. This situation will continue to be monitored and additional information will be shared as needed.

HES students who completed third and fourth grades were challenged to create schoolwide activities for summer school. They created plans, presented them to adults, and and began working on their ideas. One group decided that it was important to continue our schoolwide PBS expectations during summer school and begin to teach our incoming kindergarten students how to be responsible, respectful, and safe Cougars. This Friday, students may use their Cougar Cash to purchase lemonade or popsicles at recess. We are so proud of the work our students are doing.

The Lewis County C-1 Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Mary Jo Johnson as the Assistant Principal of Highland Elementary School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year. While Mrs. Johnson is transitioning into a new role, she is already a familiar and trusted face to the HES community. She continues to demonstrate excellent leadership capabilities and will be a wonderful asset to the administrative team. We are thrilled to watch her take this next step in her educational career and look forward to the continued dedication she will bring to HES. Congratulations, Mrs. Johnson!

The Lewis County C-1 Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Megan Carmody as the new Principal of Highland Elementary School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year. While newer to the district administrative team, Ms. Carmody has proven herself to be a caring and collaborative leader with a deep commitment to student academic growth and success. The Lewis County C-1 Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Paul Scifres as the new Assistant Principal of Highland High School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year. Backed by a strong track record in several district administrative roles, Mr. Scifres brings valuable experience to this leadership position. Alongside his duties as the HHS Assistant Principal, he will lead the district's athletic department as the new Athletic Director and serve as the second Safety Coordinator for the district. The Lewis County C-1 Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ben Buening as the new Principal of Highland High School, effective for the 2026-2027 school year. Mr. Buening brings valuable leadership experience to the position, having served in several district administrative roles. In addition to stepping into his new role as HHS Principal, he will continue to serve the district as the Transportation Director and Safety Coordinator. Congratulations, Mr. Buening!
