Missing person case # 2017-1053, Shane A. Workman

On 04/28/2017, Cindy Workman and Mike Hewitt reported their son, Shane Allen Workman, missing. He was last seen on 04/25/2017 at approximately 2200 hours near West Fourth Street and Bratton Avenue in Lewistown. Shane is described as a white male, 6’00 tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Shane has multiple tattoos on his arms as well as other areas of his body.

The Lewistown Police Department has been investigating this case since April 2017. The Pennsylvania State Police have been involved in this investigation as well. The Lewistown Borough Police Department has the primary responsibility of investigating Shane's whereabouts.

In 2023, detectives and executives from the Lewistown Police Department re-examined this investigation and established investigative priorities with hopes of locating Shane Workman. Detective Mary Woods was reassigned to this case. It is an open and ongoing investigation that is still very fluid. Many tips have come in, and each bit of information is followed up on and investigated.

-Cell phone records were able to be obtained 6 years after Workman’s disappearance and subsequently many promising leads were attained.
-Four Pennsylvania State Correctional inmates have been interviewed.
-One Pennsylvania State Correctional inmate has submitted to a polygraph examination.
-One United States Federal inmate has been interviewed.
-Five Mifflin County Correctional Facility inmates have been interviewed.
-Eleven citizens of the local region have been interviewed and/or reinterviewed.
-One property in Schuylkill County was searched with specially trained cadaver dogs in regards to a potential lead obtained by LPD. The property was previously owned by a person of interest in this investigation.
-One local body of water has been searched with the assistance of specialized aquatic equipment operated by PSP as well as local dive teams.

Lewistown Police are imploring the public to come forward if you have any information about Workman’s disappearance. The Lewistown Police Department would like to provide Workman’s family with much needed and much deserved closure. Shane was a son and a father and the family has been tormented by the lack of closure in not knowing where Shane is. The department has been communicating with the family frequently and sharing updates with this investigation. Our hope is that someone, somewhere, will help the family locate where Shane is by providing information to investigators.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Mary Woods at 717-248-6716 Ext. 218.

In August our Fire Company mourned the loss of Fredrick D. Nickel. Not only was he a dedicated member but he was also a valued member of the community. Something else he was passionate about was the students of The Mifflin County School District. As a retired instructor at The Academy of Science and Technology he was especially passionate about learning a trade. He wanted to see all students of Mifflin County to Succeed.

After many months of trying to figure out the best way to honor Fred. Our members decided a Scholarship for a student graduating The Academy of Science and Technology would be perfect. Helping a student further their education would be something he would be very proud of. We would like to announce the creation of the Fredrick D. Nickel Scholarship Fund.

We have already received donations in Fred's Name but if anyone would like to contribute please mail a check to:
Burnham Fire Company
205 N Beech Street
Burnham, PA 17009
Please put Fredrick D. Nickel Scholarship in the memo.
All donations received by February 1st will be for this year's Scholarship. Any recieved after that will go towards the 2026 Scholarship.
If you have any questions or for more information feel free to message the page.
