Building on the Shapiro Administration’s track record of helping more PA students discover their passions and earn valuable credentials before graduating from high school, PDE today announced $4.3 million in grants to 54 Pennsylvania schools through the Competitive Equipment Grants program to help with the purchase of new equipment for approved CTE programs that prepare students for in-demand jobs.

The Cosmetology Program had a successful year. The seniors are on their way into the industry, and all are scheduled for their State Board Testing to obtain their licenses. The Sophomores and Juniors are preparing for the summer clinic June 15th- July 3rd, 8 am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. Please schedule your appointment by calling 717-248-3933 (ext: 5812) and leaving your name, number, and a message with your request. We will take the calls in the order they are received. We will call you back on June 15th to schedule. Please be patient, as new Sophomores are taking calls. The Juniors are looking forward to taking the clinic floor on as they prepare to be Seniors in the Fall. We have a large number on the clinic floor this coming fall.

We want to send a huge THANK YOU to At the Barnyard for welcoming our children and giving them such a fun, hands-on learning experience. The smiles, excitement, and memories made today were truly priceless! 💛

We would also like to thank The Academy for joining us on this adventure. We are so grateful for the wonderful partnership we share and feel very lucky to have opportunities like these together. Watching the students & children learn, explore, and enjoy the day side-by-side makes these experiences even more special. ✨

Today was the first for the Academy! The Early Childhood Education students accompanied their PreK pals from the Summit Early Learning class on a field trip to “At The Barnyard.” Students spent the day exploring the farm activities, snuggling baby animals, and learning about ice cream. A great day for both big and little kids!

Thank you PA State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff for sharing your experience attending the Mifflin County Academy of Science & Technology "Career Signing Day.”

The event was moved from the school to the Army National Guard Armory in Lewistown for two reasons - the ceremony has outgrown the school's capacity AND a decision was made to include the entire student body. This gave them an opportunity to witness what they hope to be doing someday soon - taking the next step into a bright future.

Some students were moving on to proudly serve their country. Others were starting their career in a trade that pays VERY well and will not require them to take on debt. In other words, they'll get a jump on their friends in college by getting into the working world faster and less expensively.

One of the students arrived at the ceremony with welding dust on his face because he'd worked that morning (his career is already underway). Another student told me she was about to go into a trade field which pays $50/hour.

Career and technical education has changed drastically over the years. Employers are competing for these skilled students who have choices of where and for whom they want to work. It is an enviable position in which they find themselves.

The academy is doing an outstanding job preparing Juniata Valley students for the future.
