To clear things up. My contract has always been for 50 hours a month. That translates to 600 hours a year. No the council didnt cut my hours. Here are the hours i work per year since 2019, and remember i am only paid for 600.
2019: 1,264 hours
2020: 917.5 hours
2021: 755 hours
2022: 823 hours
2023: 840.5 hours
2024: 667.5 hours
I placed radar signs in town that recorded speeds and traffic density 24 hours a day for months.
That data showed that traffic density and speeding were the worst between roughly 2 PM to 7 PM. I try to patrol during that time of day the most because i feel it gives the town the best bang for the buck.
The towns main concern when i began was and is still speeders. I sit on 40 alot. I try and monitor north and south 1st as well.
The reserves were no more a liability than having a marshal. 1 reserve was a police academy graduate. 1 was released to patrol and had more training hours during his field training than my entire academy course before he was released. The 3rd was not released but was going through field training. He is also a jail deputy in another county. None of them were ill prepared nor under trained.
Hopefully this explains the concerns about hours and reserves qualifications.
