Lewisville Clerk Sworn In as 2nd Vice President and Receives Certifications 🏆

The Town is pleased to announce that Town Clerk Angie Lord has been sworn in as the second Vice President of the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks (NCAMC). She has also received multiple certifications for her participation in the association, including service on the Finance Committee, the NCAMC Board, and the Program & Education Committee. She accepted these certifications at her annual conference in August.

Congratulations to Angie for the well-deserved recognition and continued impact she has both in town and statewide. 👏

Have you seen this little guy?
Skunks have been pretty active in Lewisville lately, so here are some tips from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission for coexisting peacefully with these critters.

1. Block access to crawlspaces. Install vent covers or barriers to prevent skunks from getting under buildings, decks, and porches.

2. Remove and secure potential food sources. Lawn grubs, pet food, and food scraps can attract skunks. Secure garbage with a tight-fitting lid and avoid placing food scraps outside.

3. Spray with water. You can coax a skunk to leave by using a water hose or sq**rt bottle. Motion-activated sprinklers are also helpful.

4. To deal with skunk musk, use this mixture on affected surfaces: 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide (1 fresh bottle), ¼ cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), and 1-2 teaspoons liquid dish soap.

Concerned about rabies? Although nocturnal, healthy skunks can be active during the day, so this is not an immediate indicator of disease. They may be looking for food or raising young. If you see a skunk that is acting disoriented, biting at the air, or exhibiting unprovoked aggression, please contact the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office at their non-emergency number, 336-727-2112.

Skunks are native to North Carolina and can be great neighbors! They benefit the ecosystem by consuming pests like mice, voles, moles, beetles, worms, and grubs, according to the North Carolina Wildlife Federation. Skunks will even dig up and consume yellowjacket nests!

Just be sure to give them their space and follow the tips above to live in harmony with these fluffy friends.

Project Public Works 💪🛣️

Maintenance Technicians Hal Bodenhamer and Scott Blake install new speed cushions in the community.

While they are labor-intensive to install, speed cushions are more cost-effective and still quicker to implement than traditional speed humps, especially since our team has it down to a science.

They’re also designed with emergency vehicles in mind. The gaps between the rubber pieces allow fire trucks and ambulances to pass over them without a major impact on their response time.
