Lexington Emergency Management will test its network of outdoor warning sirens TOMORROW, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 10 a.m.

If you live near a park or golf course, expect to hear the outdoor siren sound a series of chimes followed by a voice announcement, “This is a test.”

This is a regularly scheduled test - THERE IS NO EMERGENCY - THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. Please do not call 9-1-1 about the siren test.

Remember: Lexington’s outdoor siren system is designed to alert people who are outdoors. The siren system is not intended to alert people inside homes, apartments, or office buildings.

Due to the Labor Day holiday, there will be no City waste collection on Monday, Sept. 7.

Residents who normally receive curbside pickup on Mondays will be served on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Place trash, recycle and yard waste carts on the curb after 4 p.m. on Tuesday for collection on Wednesday. Residential curbside pickup on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will not be affected.

Business trash carts and dumpsters are served twice a week. Your first collection day of the week will be pushed back one day, from Monday to Tuesday or Tuesday to Wednesday.
• Trash carts and dumpsters normally served on Mondays and Thursdays will be served on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and Thursday, Sept. 10.
• Trash carts and dumpsters normally served on Tuesdays and Fridays will be served Wednesday, Sept. 9 and Friday, Sept. 11.
Business recycle carts are served once a week. If your recycle cart is normally collected on Mondays, it will be collected on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The Haley Pike Waste Management Facility, the Lexington Recycle Center and the Electronics Recycle Center will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 5 and Monday, Sept. 7. Today alongside Mayor Linda Gorton ,Vice Mayor Dan Wu, local partners and AU Associates, Inc. we officially cut the ribbon at Wellington Park Apartments. This complex houses 45 affordable, ADA-compliant units for seniors near Wellington Park.

This project addresses the growing need for senior housing in the 9th District. We are thrilled to see this affordable housing in our community and are grateful to everyone who took part in making this idea a reality.

📣The Urban County Council will schedule a Special Committee of the Whole (COW) Meeting to receive public comment and discuss zoning rules and regulations related to data centers. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 5:30 PM in Council Chambers of the Government Center (200 E. Main Street).
The Urban County Council will receive the Planning Commission’s recommendations on how to update local zoning rules and vote to formally schedule the October 6, 2026, Special COW during its August 25 Work Session. Additionally, staff from the Division of Planning are scheduled to give an informational presentation to the General Government & Planning Committee on September 8, 2026.

Reminder:
Because many residents have storm debris, you do not have to bundle branches for City curbside collection through August 21.

+ Stack storm debris between the sidewalk & curb, never on the street or sidewalk.
+ Branches & trees must be 4 feet long or less.
+ Unbundled yard waste will be collected until August 21. After that, sticks & branches must be bundled with twine before being set on the curb. Bundles should be less than 4 feet long & weigh less than 50 pounds.
+ Yard waste can be put in your gray yard waste cart. Do not overload the cart. The lid should be able to close.

Residents can also drop off yard waste 2/month for free at Haley Pike, 4216 Hedger Lane. Haley Pike is open 8am- 5pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday.
