A ridge of high pressure will lead to hot temperatures for the next few days. Heat Indices are forecast to peak between 100 and 105 in several locations on Wednesday and Thursday. A cold front and passing disturbances will lead to some relief over the weekend along with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms at times.

A Heat Advisory is in effect through Friday for a prolonged heat wave this week. Daily heat indices will be in the 100-108 range. Overnight low temperatures will stay warm in the 70s with record warm lows possible.

Some of the hottest temperatures of the season are expected over the next several days as daytime temperatures are expected to soar into the mid-to-upper 90s. While humidity levels will be relatively low, heat index values should still reach the upper 90s and low-to-mid 100s each afternoon. Take necessary precautions if you have to be outside this week!

🥵 HEAT INDEX COULD TOP 100 DEGREES ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY THIS WEEK

Eastern Kentucky is facing several days of dangerous heat, with heat index values expected to approach 100 degrees Tuesday and likely exceed 100 in many locations Wednesday through Friday.

The heat is expected to peak Wednesday and Thursday. Thunderstorms are also possible at times Friday through Sunday.

Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and check on those especially vulnerable to extreme heat.

Hot conditions are expected through the remainder of this week, with some relief beginning this weekend. Shower and thunderstorm chances arrive to end the week, lasting into the weekend, but will likely be scattered in nature.

EXPANSIVE HEAT WAVE ACROSS THE PLAINS, MIDWEST & SOUTHEAST

An expansive and dangerous heat wave is building eastward today, bringing widespread Major to Extreme HeatRisk from the Plains through the Ohio Valley, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic.

Highs ranging from 95°F to 105°F with heat indices exceeding 105°F (up to 110°F in humid southern Texas). Lows remaining elevated in the mid-70s will offer minimal relief, compounding heat stress on the body.

Elevated chances of extreme heat are projected to persist well into the second week of September, with potential record-breaking highs across the Southern Plains.

Heat Safety Tips:
✅ Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
✅ Drink plenty of water before you feel thirsty; avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol.
✅ Check on vulnerable neighbors, the elderly, and pets.
✅ Ensure pets have fresh, shaded water, and never leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.

Patchy valley fog is possible this evening. Hot and muggy weather continues through the week with high pressure nearby. Isolated shower and storm chances creep back into the forecast towards the end of the week.

High temperatures in the 90s with heat indices in the low to mid 100s are expected at least through Thursday when a Heat Advisory is in effect. Friday remains hot and humid as well though late evening and overnight storms may provide brief relief from the heat. Otherwise, stay hydrated and keep cool this week!
