Separating Fact from Rumor

It has come to the Villages attention that recent social media posts have raised questions about several Village matters. We want to address these directly and provide accurate information to our residents.

1) Paid Parking — False. There will be no paid parking in the Village of Lexington. There was some modest exploratory occurring as an alternative revenue source, but this idea was quickly scrapped.

2) Tierney Park Concession Stand — All normal proper Village procedures were followed in awarding the concession stand contract at Tierney Park. A Request for Proposals (RFP) was publicly posted online on February 2, 2026. It was placed in the local paper along with the Village Website. All concerned public boards and commissions were notified along with spreading the word verbally. When the submission period closed on April 16, 2026, only one proposal had been received — from Common Roots Café — and the contract was awarded accordingly.

3) Retirement Fund Shortfall — The Village of Lexington has a funding gap in its retirement fund for retired Village employees. This issue has been deferred for many years and just started to be addressed in the last decade. We acknowledge it openly and are committed to addressing it responsibly. We continue to take remedial measures that our predecessors started.

Village staff is always available to answer questions, explain issues, or listen to concerns. We caution the community when following social media. As often topics are not explained thoroughly. Transparency and accurate communication are priorities for our Village.

Village of Lexington DDA Approves Engineering Plans and Funding Authorization for Boynton & Washington Parking Lot Project

LEXINGTON, Mich. — After multiple months of public meetings by our Downtown Development Authority and public input. The Village of Lexington DDA has approved a resolution authorizing our engineering firm to prepare engineering and construction plans for improvements to the Boynton and Washington parking lot project, while also authorizing the use of DDA funds toward the project. This was later affirmed by the Village Council at its past regular meeting.

The parking lot project is intended to improve parking availability, traffic flow, and overall accessibility in the downtown area. Approximately 85 percent of the project area is located on Village-owned property, while the remaining 15 percent is privately owned property adjacent to the site.

To maximize parking capacity and improve the overall functionality of the area, an agreement was reached to pave the entire lot as one unified project for public parking and use. The owner of the privately owned portion of the property has agreed to financially contribute toward the project costs. The completed lot will be available for public use, helping to support downtown businesses, visitors, and community events. The plans also include areas for the later additions of telescopes and public seating to view the lake and an escape driveway (non-paved) for the 27 residents of the adjacent Condo when local street closures block them throughout the season.

Village officials noted that the collaborative approach between the public and private sectors allows the project to move forward in the most efficient and beneficial manner for the community.

Additional project details and timelines will be released as planning progresses.
