WORLD: Meet Fayette County’s first-ever Juvenile Treatment Court’s first GRADUATE, Chris. To say that we are proud and over the moon would be colossal understatements.

⭐️ Maintained employment
⭐️ Actively participated in mental wellness services
⭐️ Gave back to his city by completing community service
⭐️ Repaired relationships with family
⭐️ Created a new friend group
⭐️ Gained a mentor
⭐️ Completed drug education programming
And….
⭐️ WILL attend BCTC in the Spring for his diesel mechanic certification.
Chris is super smart, has a kilowatt smile, an amazing sense of humor (as you can see in the photo) and a positive outlook towards his future.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of our partners who made this day happen. We appreciate you all and tip our hat to our world-changing Program Coordinator, Kivvi Figgs.
We have all made history today.

This Saturday The TICC of Lexington will be hosting a FREE training for minority families (with children between 3rd-8th grades) to discuss, illuminate, and explore mental health & personal trauma! This has been a very tough year for the Lexington community, especially minority families who have disproportionately been impacted while also having the least access to mental health services! This training is FREE! PLEASE SHARE!
led a great training for ONE Lexington and it’s community partners last month, and it was super impactful! For more information on how to get registered, adhere to the info in the flier below!
A powerful day at Crawford Middle School last week as 40 plus 8th graders read their poems and raps about their personal experiences with gun violence, as a part of ONE Lexington's "We Are One" poem program. So far in 2022 we've seen a 60 percent drop in gun related homicides among youth and young adults, ages 13-29, and so far this year we've lost 2 young people ages 18 & younger to gun violence while at this time last year we had lost 8. Though we've seen some progress, there are still too many young people caught in the cycle of violence in Lexington so we look forward to joining our community partners in continuing the efforts to reduce gun violence. If we all do a little, together we can do a lot!
City hosts anti-gun violence town hall
While the city says youth violence is down, when it comes to at all ages, Lexington has already surpassed the homicide record set in 2021.
We had a great turnout for our Trauma Informed-Care community partners training last week! We look to build the capacity of all of our community partners by hosting FREE trainings that better equip them to serve families in our community who have been impacted by gun violence!

Two Lexington seniors are getting money to go towards college next year.
Words from our director, Devine Carama..
“As promised, today I allowed our ONE Lexington in-school mentoring group TLC to lead me on their journey through hip hop culture. How the art form is seen through their eyes! I tried to step back and just listen today… I guide them tomorrow (next week)..”
We’ve worked on this plan for over year! We are finally ready to implement it! It will take the city, faith community, school system, nonprofit sector, those with lived experience, gun violence survivors, and more to bring this document to life! 2022 as been a rough year, but we believe better days are ahead. 🙏🏾
The City of Lexington worked with the University of Kentucky’s Community Innovation Lab and Cities United to develop the plan.
Today, we rolled out a ONE Lexington Strategic Plan. I was joined by ONE Lexington Director Devine Carama, and Community Response Coordinator Larry Johnson, as well as the Director of the University of Kentucky Community Innovation Lab Bryan Hains. This plan has been in the works for over a year, following partnerships formed with Cities United, which works with 80-plus cities around the country, and the UK Community Innovation Lab. The recommendations in the plan will help guide ONE Lexington, and deepen our relationships with community partners to reach more of the ONE Lexington target population – young people, age 13-29. ONE Lexington and its partner programs have already done great work … we have seen a 50% drop in homicides involving this age group when compared to last year. But, there’s more work to do and this plan will guide us along the way. Learn more by visiting www.lexingtonky.gov/one-lexington

As many of you know, almost a 1/3 of our homicides in Lexington in 2022 are linked to domestic violence. Thankful to all the survivors, advocates, and Governor Andy Beshear for continuing to raise awareness to a growing issue in communities all over Kentucky.

This weekend, Lexington set a new homicide record of 38, with 31 of those homicides being gun related. Last year at this time 20 of the homicide victims were between the ages of 13-29, while this year only 10 victims fall in that age group. Also last year at this time, we had 7 gun-related homicide victims under the age of 21 and we only have 3 so far this year. Despite progress in our youth and young adult population, we have seen a spike in older residents and an explosion in domestic violence related homicides. 21 of our 38 homicides this year feature victims 35 years of age & older, and almost a 1/3 of our homicides this year are domestic violence related. The violence this year has been so diverse and widespread, and because of that, so many different parts of our city have been heavily impacted. We ask that everyone keeps the families of those lost and all survivors of gun violence in your prayers! To all of our community partners, stay vigilant and locked in. Allow the pain of our survivors to continue to inform our work moving forward.
Friends, family say goodbye to popular youth football coach
When you talk to people at Gainesway Park about Maurice Walker, there's one word you hear a lot. "He embodied heart. He had a big heart," said his friend Tray Hughes.
Today, ONE Lexington was honored to donate $1,000 to the Lexington Ravens Football Organization’s “Landon Hayes Memorial Scholarship Fund” created to help 2 Tates Creek High School students go to college. We are challenging others to step up and do the same! Young Landon was shot and killed earlier this year and this scholarship is in memory of him so that his spirit and legacy will live on through those touched and uplifted by this opportunity. Like most youth sports organizations in inner city Lexington, the Ravens are showing that their mission is so much bigger than SPORTS!
You can reach out to the organizers of the Ravens, Terry & Q, and purchase a t-shirt or hoodie (seen in this picture) and those proceeds will go directly to the fund!
Today, our Community Response Coordinator, Larry Johnson, spoke on our ongoing partnership with Cities United, and our upcoming grassroots grant programs focused on organizations committed to reducing gun violence in our community!
Shouts to all of the community members stepping up to pour into these kids each and every week! ONE Lexington’s in-school mentoring programs are in full swing. We are back at tomorrow and the rest of the week! To find of more about ways to get involved, contact Devine Carama at [email protected]

Honored to sit in on NAMI Lexington & New Vista KY’s “Great Minds, A Community Mental Health Conversation” with mental health professionals from all over the city. Mayor Linda Gorton read the city’s proclamation making this week “Mental Illness Awareness Week” in Lexington. Chief of Police, Sheriff Kathy Witt, several Judges, Fayette County Public Schools, and other community partners are here as well to listen, learn, and figure out how we can better collaborate to support mental health in our community!

Lexington Police officers have been involved in an on-duty shooting and an officer was shot in the 400 block of West New Circle Road. The officer has been transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Another individual was also transported to a local hospital and is in critical, but stable condition. This is still an active investigation, please expect a high police presence in the area.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
Today in our in-school mentoring program at Southern Middle School Devine Carama facilitated a discussion on the importance of individuality and how to navigate the pressures from social media and music to be like “everyone else”. Our boys in particular are pressured to engage in conflict and be “tough” all the time even when they don’t want to. It may look different in 2022, but “peer pressure” is a very real thing and we have to build our young kings and queens up so that their self confidence outlasts the desires to lose self in order to fit in. Some times CONFIDENCE is the last line of defense before getting into a deadly conflict.
We are now hiring for an Administrative Specialist for ONE Lexington! As many of you know, One Lex was a 1 and then a 2 person outfit for a long time. Today was powerful as over 100 community partners and youth professionals came together for our annual , focused on violence, trauma and substance use disorder. An official partnership between City of Lexington, Ky - Government & Fayette County Public Schools! So much amazing information was shared and potential partnerships formed! This year we have actually seen a slight decline in gun violence among youth and young adults, and that’s is because of the work that many community organizations are doing! Thank you Christiana Ford for highlighting the work of ONE Lexington, along with Terry Hicks & Quinton Roberts of the Lexington Ravens! But there’s so many other organizations out their pounding the pavement each and everyday. And though we’ve seen a slight decline, there’s still many shootings and senseless killings and so the work continues! Also, thank you Judge Lindsay Hughes Thurston for the affirming words! #ItTakesAVillage!

It’s easier to raise a strong boy than to heal a broken man… That strategy of divide and conquer has been amplified by the conditions and circumstances than many children have been forced to endure for centuries. While we attack those disparities in our communities, we also instill the importance of UNITY and continuing the fight to rise up from within. The easiest enemy to defeat is one that defeats itself…. 🎥 by Brandon S. Turner

So thankful to the ladies of Bag Behavior and Steven Coffman of soulnroses8 for coming & talking to ONE Lexington’s #ItTakesAVillage Summer Youth Program about starting and maintaining your own successful business! They dropped a million dollars worth of game & these kids soaked every bit of it up!
I’m so proud of our #ItTakesAVillage Youth Summer Program group this week! They delivered over 100 food bags (courtesy of Black Soil: Our Better Nature & FoodChain) in the East End this morning! They were tired and very hot 🥵 but they got the job done and blessed a lot of folks.
"Out the mouth of babes..." Thank you Georgia McCarthur FOX 56 News for swinging by, talking to some of our kids, and covering the first day of ONE Lexington's #ItTakesAVillage Summer Youth Program. University of Kentucky's new Cornerstone building served as a great host as the kids played in the new Esports gaming center! Last year we were able to serve 25-30 youth, but with Mayor Linda Gorton's expanded budget proposal, we are able to serve up to 50 youth this summer. Reach one, teach one. [email protected]
Today, ONE Lexington is releasing episode 1 of our new monthly "Youth Voices of Lexington" video series! It's important that we show our young people that we have their back and that we are here to support them. With homicides disproportionally impacting young black males, it's important that they see positive people who look like them, unifying on their behalf! #ItTakesAVillage #ONELexington
