In the spirit of Giving Tuesday throughout the country, it is our hope you will consider supporting a valued local grass-roots organization, the Rockbridge Area Housing Corporation. We are proud to have provided safe and affordable and family-oriented housing to hundreds of local families and individuals since the fall of 1972.
Rockbridge Area Housing Corporation, a not-for-profit owner/management company of Mountainview Terrace Apartments off Lewis Street in the City of Lexington, Va., is the ONLY multi-family affordable housing development in the city limits of Lexington, conveniently close to jobs, schools, health care services, government services, our downtown and bus stops.
A gift from you will help support a 50+ year old development, always in need of infrastructure attention, the 40+ children who require accessible activities and equipment to help ensure their safety on the property and in addition the viability of an assisted property also requires vision to expand and diversify the desperately needed housing stock with land readily available for future development to help sustain us for the next 50 years.
The Corporation was founded in 1968 with a goal in mind of providing, as Dr. Louis W. Hodges, one of our founders, stated at that time, “not low-cost housing but sound and attractive housing for low to moderate-income families” for those who cannot find adequate housing within their economic means.
With the assistance from the newly formed U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide a HUD-insured loan, a concerned citizen agreed to lend seed money up to $20,000 and a local family, the John B. Thompson heirs, donated 8 acres of property on the corner of Lewis and Diamond to help realize their goal. Upon completion of the construction and establishment of leasing guidelines, the first family moved into the development in September of 1972 and their last family member remained on the property until June 2000!
