The Urban County Council last night unanimously approved an ordinance that Lexington's 10th District - Councilmember Dave Sevigny and I sponsored to prohibit vehicles from parking in bicycle lanes or blocking them for more than 10 minutes. This ordinance should help make Lexington’s streets safer by reducing how often cyclists must leave a designated bike lane and divert into traffic to avoid an obstruction. The Urban County Council will schedule a Special Committee of the Whole (COW) Meeting to receive public comment and discuss zoning rules and regulations related to data centers. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 5:30 PM in Council Chambers of the Government Center (200 E. Main Street).

The Urban County Council will receive the Planning Commission’s recommendations on how to update local zoning rules and vote to formally schedule the October 6, 2026, Special COW during its August 25 Work Session. Additionally, staff from the Division of Planning are scheduled to give an informational presentation to the General Government & Planning Committee on September 8, 2026.

Information on the progress of Fayette County’s data center zoning updates is available to the public on the Engage Lexington platform. Residents are encouraged to learn more and submit written feedback by visiting Engage.LexingtonKY.Gov/DataCenters.

Today, Aug. 10, Mayor Gorton held a press conference and issued a proclamation celebrating 50 years of the Woodland Art Fair, coming to Woodland Park this weekend Aug. 15-16.

I joined the Mayor along with LFUCG and community partners as well as fellow community members to gather in the park and share a few words to commemorate the occasion.

The Woodland Art Fair is presented by Lexington, KY Parks & Recreation, in partnership with Lexington Art League, and is a nationally recognized event. Over 180 professional artists and craftspeople from all over the country and world, as well as from Lexington, gather to sell unique, handcrafted items at the fair.

I highly recommend the Keeneland Library’s current special exhibit, Raíces: The Making of Latino Legacies in Racing.

The library is a beautiful space full of rich history that is such a staple of Lexington’s cultural evolution, and this exhibit shares some of the countless contributions of Latino communities in our horse industry over centuries.

The library is free to visit and all are welcome.
