Welcome back, Lambdas! Hope everyone had a fun, relaxing spring break!

For the second half of the semester we are hitting the ground running! For this week's meeting we are bringing in some of our favorite communication professors and grad students to share wisdom and some stories from their careers.

These include:
Cyndy Miller
Anthony Limperos

Okay, Lambdas – this is something you can easily do and possibly win! Don’t miss this opportunity!

This academic year UK is launching the inaugural UK Libraries Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship. This award is a $1,000 cash prize to the winning student, and is an outstanding way to highlight their research accomplishments. Because COM 351 is categorized as a GCCR course, any final or semester projects that your students have been working on will most likely be eligible for the award. I am attaching the flyer for the award, and you can read more about it in this press release: http://uknow.uky.edu/student-life/uk-libraries-announces-dean%E2%80%99s-award-excellence-undergraduate-scholarship. If you have students who are interested in submitting a project for consideration, they can find complete details and instructions here: http://libguides.uky.edu/UGRA.

We are encouraging and accepting all formats of individual projects in any discipline, including but not limited to written essays or research, a documentary, podcasts, interview or other multimedia, performance art, choreography, or other original work, studio art, original science, mathematics, physics or engineering projects, and recorded presentations.

The award will recognize and celebrate exceptional, original scholarship and research in any discipline by UK undergraduates whose research projects make substantive and creative use of the UK Libraries’ collections, services and resources.

Hello Everyone!

Our Induction & End of the Semester Ice Cream Dessert Party will be next Friday, December 9th, at 6 p.m. We sent out an Evite, which we need everyone to respond to, through email but we have been having some issues with our email list, so here is that link!

Hello Everyone!

I SENT THIS OUT AS AN EMAIL OVER BREAK, BUT WE ARE APPARENTLY HAVING TECHNOLOGY ISSUES. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT RECEIVE THIS EMAIL. IF YOU GOT THIS LAST WEEK, PLEASE "LIKE" THIS POST SO WE CAN DETERMINE WHO RECEIVED WHAT.

(Please read the whole post)

With the end of the semester coming so quickly, we have a couple things to take care of in the next couple weeks. First, we need more people to order shirts. As of right now, the t-shirts will be more than $30 unless we get eight more people to order them, however, if thirteen more people order shirts, they will be $25. These are shirts look very nice and are amazingly comfortable so you want to make sure to order one at our next meeting!

Speaking of which, OUR NEXT MEETING IS TONIGHT Tuesday, the 29th at 6 p.m in Study Room 1 in the Little Library. We will be talking about our new schedule for next semester, how best to communicate with you, our members, and ideas for events for next semester. If you are not at this meeting your availability will not be taken into consideration when we set the schedule for next semester.

We also need a list of people who are graduating this semester so we can get your honor cords. If you have been an inactive member during your time in Lambda Pi Eta, your cord will be red and white, if you have been active, you will get a gold cord; this distinction occurs on a national level within Lambda Pi Eta.

We will also be voting for our replacement Vice President on December 9th, the night of our Induction. Our current Vice President, Henry Rand, is graduating in December so we need a reliable, dedicated person to take his place. Anyone who wants to run should prepare a short statement about why they should be considered for the position.

Lastly, I want to take a moment to thank those of you who took the time to volunteer for ProAm Day! The event was amazing, and it was due, in part, to your assistance. I think it was a huge success!

Thank you so much and please let me know if you have any questions,

Katherine Huffman

Lambda Pi Eta, with the help of political science honor fraternity Pi Sigma Alpha, hosted a discussion panel featuring Adam Edelen, Chief of Staff to former governor Steve Beshear, and current Lexington city councilmember Amanda Mays Bledsoe. Moderated by associate communication professor, Dr. Allison Gordon, topics included how to relay ideas and efforts in a positive way, using positive language and asking questions to understand your audience, and experiences that influenced how these seasoned politicians communicate interpersonally with both supporters, opponents, and fellow government leaders. LPH would like to thank our panel members and moderator for engaging in an enlightening discussion on how to discuss politics and issues effectively, both within government and amongst our peers.
