From our own, Sarah Gaither -

I was honored to be able to represent the National Partnership for Juvenile Services (NPJS) at the Coalition for Juvenile Justice conference in Washington DC this past week.

I know there are amazing people doing amazing things for youth in our country, and somehow I always leave feeling humbled by the impact being made by every new person I meet.

Things that stood out to me that I want to share:

โœ”๏ธ This great reading list of stories by and about justice impacted youth๐Ÿ“–
https://lnkd.in/g-VrBSkH
hashtag

โœ”๏ธ Community collaborations like this one that are improving the lives of youth and their families and increasing community safety
https://lnkd.in/gWqmTx4y

โœ”๏ธ The impact being made by Poet Ambassadors of Free Minds Book Club
https://lnkd.in/gPPVGwVB

โœ”๏ธ How much everyone in attendance cares about and are invested in the mission of improving outcomes for youth and their families.

I left with my bucket full, connected with old friends and met some new ones.

Thank you, Melissa Milchman, Brock Landwehr, Shalee Forney, and the whole CJJ team for putting together a great conference!

Do you know about JuvCMS?

It is NPJS' own web-based case management software solution developed by juvenile justice professionals for juvenile justice programs.

Our members show up every day for young people that others have given up on.

You counsel, mentor, educate, and advocate โ€” often without recognition, but always with heart.

๐ƒ๐ž๐ฌ๐œ๐ซ๐ข๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: This presentation will explore the hidden role brain injury plays in the lives of justice involved youth and why it so often goes undetected in behavioral health settings. Participants will learn how brain injury symptoms frequently mimic trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, and behavioral disorders - leading clinicians and systems to misunderstand the youth sitting in front of them. The session will examine how brain injury changes the way youth process information, respond to stress, engage in therapy, and function within systems. Participants will leave with practical screening ideas, intervention adaptations, and a framework for shifting from "What's wrong with this youth?" to "What happened to this brain?".
