Our 4th graders put their problem solving skills to work today as they learned about systems, their parts, and their functions during our Energy Conversions unit!

Students were given just a few materials such as a solar panel, wires, motor, and fan with NO further directions. 😲

Their challenge? Design and build a functioning system that converts solar energy into mechanical/motion energy to spin the fan…without touching it!

🐎 Learning Beyond the Classroom at Keeneland! 🏇

Our 5th graders had an incredible opportunity to visit Keeneland this week and discover why Lexington is known as the Horse Capital of the World!

Students rotated through 10 interactive stations exploring the many different sides of Kentucky’s horse racing industry. Through hands-on activities, they learned how the equine industry:

🐴 Brings visitors from around the world to Lexington
🌾 Supports local farmers and agriculture
🏪 Strengthens small businesses and our local economy
💼 Creates thousands of jobs across Kentucky
🏆 Preserves and shares an important part of our state’s heritage

Experiences like this bring learning to life and help our students see the connections between their classroom, their community, and the world around them.

🐺💚 Building Leaders of the 5th Grade Pack! 💚🐺

Another first for GME-Our 5th graders took learning beyond the classroom during their Pack Party! Teachers created a rotation of team-building games and challenges designed to give students opportunities to practice important character and leadership skills: communication, trust, encouragement, inclusion, and flexibility.

Students started by forming packs with their homeroom and were given matching bandanas. At each station, students had to work together, problem-solve, listen to one another, adapt when things didn’t go as planned, and encourage their teammates. And judging by those smiles, there was plenty of FUN mixed in, too! 🎉

At the end of the rotations, our 5th grade teachers brought the entire grade together and recognized students they saw exemplifying these character traits in action, presenting our first Pack Leader awards. 🏆🐾

School is about so much more than reading, math, science, and social studies. We are developing the whole child and helping our students build a foundation of character, leadership, and community that we hope will last far beyond their elementary school years.

We’re proud of the leaders our oldest Wolves are becoming! 🐺💚
