I began this page a long time ago, and have enjoyed posting on it over the years.
I think it has lived its course. I won't be getting rid of Melissa the Librarian, but I will not be posting to it anymore -- other social medias have become more appropriate for my library life.

I love the collections at George C. Marshall Foundation -- handwritten letters to and from Marshall and Presidents; cryptography worksheets; heartbreaking correspondence; amazing photos.
I feel a responsibility to safeguard and share these memories.

A lot of discussion about fewer history graduates, and what it takes to be considered a "good" historian.
As a librarian, I am responsible for a tremendous collection 1900-1960, and love to share with all who ask.

Today I got to record a Legacy Lecture with Chana Gazit, Hilary Klotz Steinman, and Sarah Keeling, who worked together to create The Codebreaker, about Elizebeth Smith Friedman, for American Experience | PBS
I thoroughly enjoyed our hour together discussing making a documentary during COVID and Elizebeth and her groundbreaking work. The lecture will be available later in February.

Katherine understood this; it's why we have many photos on the steps of their homes, and in the yards, but few inside. It's also why Marshall had no personal aide.

In the coldest days of never-ending February, I share Gen. George Marshall's thoughts on the flowers at his post quarters at Vancouver Barracks, WA, as reassurance that spring will come.
"Then too, the trees and flowers, and the views are beautiful. Mt. Hood looms up with its snow crown in the vista from Mrs. Marshall’s bedroom windows. My predecessor left a rose garden of sixty varieties, and a pretty good amateur dalhia (sic) show."
