Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
RITI updates and best practices:
1. The guest will have their temps taken at the New Life Day Center as well as at dispatch. If you want to also take their temp at the church, please do so if it makes you feel better.
2. During times like this we have found it helpful to remember it does not take 10+ volunteers to serve our guest. The bare minimum is all you need. They can and have been making their own beds, tearing down their own beds and serving their own food. They have been washing their hands and using hand sanitizer regularly. We have not had a case of COVID-19 among the homeless.
3. If your volunteers want to drop off the food before the guest arrive and leave that is one way to keep them involved but ease their minds.
4. If you have a population of volunteers who are in the "danger" category I would suggest they stay home. The homeless have not had a case of COVID-19 and we do not want them to get it just as much as we do not want to get it ourselves.
5. If you have an emergency call 911. Our first responders are still working, and all the agencies that serve this population will be doing the same if they have an emergency. You do not have any other option, call 911.
If I have forgotten to address anything or should you have any further questions do not hesitate to reach out to me. I have been around the guest all weekend and they are doing great. They are cold and tired by the time they get to us as everything is closed. We did supply them with extra McDonald’s gift cards, but as you may know by now that will not help at this time. RITI’s goal is to show our love through our actions as we are called by God to serve one another, especially in time of need.
Thank you for your love and dedication to our guest who may be just as scared if not more so given their lack of resources. We are truly giving them hope to get through the day right now.
