‼️ No curbside recycling collection tomorrow, Tuesday 6/23!

Recyclables collected through City curbside collection this Tuesday will be landfilled due to mechanical issues at the Recycle Center.

If possible, please do not put your blue recycle cart out tomorrow.

Turn around, don't drown — do not drive through high water, turn around.
High water conditions have been reported in the following areas:
- S. Upper Street at Scott Street
- S. Broadway under the RR overpass near Angliana Avenue
- N. Broadway between W. Loudon Avenue and the railroad overpass
- S. Broadway in the area of Gibson Avenue
- New Circle Road at the RR overpass near Young Drive

TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN

🚙 Never try to drive on flooded roads.
🚧 Never drive around “road closed” signs.
🌊 Don’t walk through floodwaters or play in rising creeks.

You can’t see:
📏 How deep the water is
🕳️ If there are ditches or uncovered manholes
🛞 If there is trash or debris in muddy water

⚠️ Stay safe & take a different route.

Lexington is under a Flash Flood Warning until 11 a.m., Monday, June 22, 2026. Flash flooding is possible for small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, and other low-lying areas. Never drive through floodwaters or flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown!

Just a reminder that city offices are closed today in observance of Juneteenth. The celebrations continue today and beyond — see the full list in the caption!

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States, honoring the day all enslaved people in the country were legally freed.

And while the official Juneteenth holiday is next Friday, June 19, Lexington is celebrating all week long with events from Sunday, June 14, to Sunday, June 21. Here’s a brief overview, but you can find more details and event descriptions at the link in our bio.

Are you a member of a Fayette County-based business, school, church or non-profit interested in obtaining one of our Class B Infrastructure Stormwater Quality Projects Incentive Grants? Then sign up for one of our Virtual Q&A Sessions on Monday, June 22 at 6 p.m. and Wednesday, June 24 at 1 p.m.

The goal of the program is to improve water quality in surface water by reducing pollutants, stormwater runoff and flooding, and by providing education opportunities. Types of projects that can receive funding include:

Stream restoration
Constructed wetlands
Bioretention
Rain gardens
Rainwater harvesting
Pervious pavement
