On June 9, 2026, the Urban County Council voted unanimously to institute a moratorium on all data center developments in Fayette County until October 31, 2026, to allow time for further review of local zoning rules and regulations.

Today, Council launched an online forum and information hub regarding data center developments on its public input platform, Engage Lexington.

Future updates, draft ordinance language, and opportunities for in-person engagements will be shared via the online platform. Public feedback received through Engage Lexington will be made available to Council Members as they continue to review local policies around data centers.

Lexington Emergency Management will test its network of outdoor warning sirens TOMORROW, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

If you live near a park or golf course, expect to hear the outdoor siren sound a series of chimes followed by a voice announcement, “This is a test.”

This is a regularly scheduled test - THERE IS NO EMERGENCY - THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. Please do not call 9-1-1 about the siren test.

Remember: Lexington’s outdoor siren system is designed to alert people who are outdoors. The siren system is not intended to alert people inside homes, apartments, or office buildings.
