📆 Lexington’s Division of Waste Management will adjust its collection schedule for the upcoming Martin Luther King holiday. Carts will not be serviced on Monday, Jan. 16. Residents who normally receive curbside pickups on Mondays will be serviced on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

🚧 Inbound Rose Street between Vine Street and High Street will be closed Monday, January 9, starting at 3 a.m. Traffic will be directed onto High St. toward Limestone.

Motorists on Vine will be able to continue through the intersection, turn right onto Rose (toward UK) or turn left toward Main Street. Traffic will be slower moving through this intersection, however. The right two lanes of Vine at Rose will also be closed.

Work is expected to be completed by 3 p.m. The closure is necessary to repair a recent storm sewer collapse resulting from a water line break.

Recycling Natural Christmas Trees

Here's another environmentally-friendly way to dispose of your natural Christmas tree! From now until Sunday, Jan. 15, you can drop off your natural Christmas tree at Jacobson Park’s paddleboat dock parking lot between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Be sure to remove all decorations. The trees will be submerged in public waters, making great refuge and feeding habitats for game fishes.

Clays Mill Road open to traffic

🚧 Clays Mill Road is now fully open to traffic. Southbend Drive will now be permanently one-way from Lone Oak Drive to Clays Mill. Additionally, there is now a left-turn-only lane onto Reed Lane for motorists traveling on Clays Mill Road from downtown to help with traffic flow.

The Clays Mill Road Project, a 3.7-mile-long road and sidewalk improvement project, is complete with the exception of the final cleanup and to-do list items that will be finished in the Spring of 2023.

📆 Lexington will adjust its waste collection schedule for Thanksgiving.
🦃 No waste service will occur Thursday, Nov. 24, or Friday, Nov. 25. Those who normally receive pickup on Thursdays or Fridays will be serviced on Wednesday, Nov. 23.
🦃 For all who receive city service, yard waste carts will not be collected Thanksgiving week. Recycle and trash carts, along with yard waste bags and bundles, will be picked up.
🦃 Crews collecting yard waste bags and bundles may not be able to complete service for both the Thursday & Friday routes on Wednesday. If they do not collect your bags & bundles on Wednesday, please leave them out. The remaining yard waste bags will be picked up on Monday, Nov. 28.

Live Green Lexington is partnering with businesses across the community to host its fourth annual holiday lights collection drive. 🎄💡

Residents can drop off broken or unwanted holiday lights, including string lights, rope lights and electric candles at collection sites throughout the city. You can also drop off extension cords, timers, light sensors, power strips and other small electronics.

Last weekend’s Lex Bike Walk glow ride was such a hit! Thank you to everyone who organized the event, including Live Green Lexington and all of our bike friends and partners who came out for this family-friendly 1.7 mile night ride. This event got people moving, gave them the lights and gear they need to be safe, and was incredibly fun for people of all ages. Let’s do it again soon!
Next weekend marks our last Live Green Lexington At-Home Composting Workshop of the fall! If you're interested in learning more about composting, how it works, and the benefits to our environment, check out the video I made with Christine Smith of Seedleaf, our partner in presenting this new composting program at McConnell Springs.
