Check out our most recent KEP Project Update:
On the first day (February 15) of our two-day whirlwind tour of Imbabura, we visited the all-indigenous school Modesto A Penaherrera in Cotacahi.
While there, we gave out toothbrushes and Beanie Babies (known lovingly everywhere around here as Peluches!) to the little kids, toothbrushes to the older ones, and taught the teachers to apply the Fluoride Varnish later.
Leo Ona, Rankin Skinner, and Ruthi Skinner stopped in North Quito to pick up the Ecuadorian painter Jaime Calderon who joined us to work for the day, then led us high, higher, highest to The Balcony of Imbabura, then higher even than the balcony for lunch and garden visit at the stunning Mountain of Light, an event which would be attended by members of his beloved elderly aunt and other family members.
Jaime works mostly in nudes, and was a guest in our home in 2019 when he came to our state on a grant from Kentucky-Ecuador Partners. He exhibited at the Lexington Public Library Gallery downtown, then gave workshops at UK, EKU, Transylvania, U of L, and Bellarmine University. He also taught in some of the inner city schools in Lexington, to rave reviews.
