Lexington VA Health Care System is joining the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network, becoming one of 20 affiliated hospitals in Kentucky. This partnership will provide Kentucky veterans with expanded access to specialized cancer care, including clinical trials and advanced technology available only at NCI-designated cancer centers. Through this affiliation, veterans can receive comprehensive cancer care – from prevention to treatment to survivorship – within the VA network and closer to home.

Although the Department of Veterans Affairs has been around for much longer, on July 21, 1930, President Herbert Hoover signed Executive Order 5398, consolidating the three agencies into a single entity called the Veterans Administration.

VA has grown to include 170 VA Medical Centers and 1,269 community clinics; 141 national cemeteries; and 56 VBA Regional Officers and 300 VA Vet Centers.

Established in 1931, the Lexington VA Health Care System has been proudly serving the Veterans of Kentucky since opening. Veterans, if not enrolled, should reach out to our Enrollment and eligibility team, 859-233-4511 ext. 4948 to apply to the health care you have earned and deserve.

During her drill weekend, NMRTC Great Lakes Reserve Logistics Specialist 3rd Class Jinfan Zuo learns how to triage trauma patients from trauma RN Amanda Borchers in the Lovell FHCC Simulation Center. Borchers is patient safety manager at the Lexington VA Medical Center. Zuo is a tax accountant in civilian life.

VA Women’s Health Transition Training is an excellent place to start. This self-paced, online course walks you through everything you need to know about transitioning from military health care to VA, including eligibility and enrollment, health care services available to you, and the changes you’ll experience.

The Women Veterans State Conference, with keynote speaker Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Tanya Bradshear, will be June 25, 2024. There will be several discussions and interactive activities including a cooking demo, chair yoga, and breakout sessions on hair loss.
