As winter turns to spring, coyotes may be more visible in rural and urban areas across the state. They roam to find mates, establish territories, & raise pups.

Tips:

- Never feed coyotes! Keep pet food inside, secure trash, and avoid attracting wildlife.
- When walking your dog, use a short leash and keep a safe distance.
- If you encounter a coyote, make loud noises to scare it away.

When Starla came to Wolf Run, as a tiny, helpless fawn, we knew that giving her the life she deserved would be full of challenges. Starla was completely blind. We had an ultrasound of her eyes and the congenital cataracts would render her sightless for life. Nothing could be done.
That was 15 years ago and I'm so happy to report sweet Starla has had a great life! She has been with another blind doe, Helen, for most of that time and has enjoyed fresh air and sunshine, the company of others, and a huge habitat!

This coyote had a broken back, hip & pelvis. We didn't have much hope, but his eyes told another story.

Wanagi ❤️

Wanagi is a Lakota word that means "spirit" or "ghost". In Lakota tradition, a wanagi is a spirit that is given to a child at birth from a star. The child lives with the wanagi for their entire life. When the child dies, the wanagi leaves their body and travels to the Milky Way, where it returns to a star.

Just wanted to give you an update on our patient! He was found lifeless in someone's backyard. Calls were made by the homeowners and with no offers of help, so they covered him and put out food and water. I doubt very seriously he would have survived if not for them. Our wildlife rehabilitator, Becca Senn, reported this morning that he is still improving! Just days ago he could not walk. Now he's able to scratch, dip his hands in his water and stand! We have little doubt that under Becca's care, he will thrive and hopefully be released! Merry Christmas everyone!

Our newest family member at Wolf Run, belting out her wolfy lyrics like no other!

We have not broadcast this but a white wolf dog has been dumped near the ferry on the Tates Creek side in Lexington. We have gotten many calls and messages from people who have seen her. But one woman went above and beyond as did the guys on the ferry! They made sure she was eating and gave her their lunch while a lady in the area who crosses the ferry twice a day, brought her dinner! This same woman and her son, eventually gained her trust enough to slip a lead over her neck! She texted me and now this girl is in boarding, eating the best food and enjoying sleeping in! It's all a miracle really. We were so afraid someone would shoot her but the little community took her under their wings! This pretty girl is very low content and will be placed in a home. She is housebroken and well mannered! She has no business in a sanctuary situation. If you would like to help us with her boarding fees, food, and vetting we would be grateful! Newest addition to the family! His name is Bramley! He's just three months old. Bramley is a Hedgehog! I just read that these little pin cushions can run 5 mph! They are also carnivores and are nocturnal! He's awfully cute, don't you think?

Yesterday this young man shared his winnings from a grant he won from Earthecho! Here's Rader Barnes, a student from East Jessamine High School, talking about a few of his passions!
