CPH graduate Mason Taylor worked with Julia Costich, JD, PhD, as part of his undergraduate research fellowship this spring. Mason's research work analyzed morbidity and mortality data related to firearm incidents in Kentucky. This research aims to provide insights into the prevalence, patterns, and potential risk factors associated with firearm injuries in Kentucky.
CPH public health major Khushi Arora worked with Julie Ribes, MD, PhD, as part of her undergraduate research fellowship this spring. Khushi's research work focused on tracking trends in human papilloma virus (HPV) positivity rates from 2000 to 2023. HPV is known to cause cervical cancer, but vaccines can prevent many other types of HPV infections as well. Khushi's study looked at how changes in HPV testing guidelines and the introduction of vaccination programs have affected the rates of HPV infections.
CPH public health major Brayden Ward worked with Dana Quesinberry, JD, DrPH, on post-incarceration fatal drug overdose rates in Kentucky. Brayden's research work used publicly available data to examine fatal overdoses among individuals post-incarceration. The research aims to identify modifiable factors leading to the increased overdose risk.
CPH graduate Ashley Grospitch worked with Rachel Hogg-Graham’s research team and Team Up collaborative as part of her undergraduate research fellowship this spring. Ashley’s research work examined models for delivering screenings and referral services and how students can be integrated into the work. Her work informed a model where UK HealthCare will work with students to support the referral process to community resources.
CPH public health major Olivia Allran shares what she’s learned through undergraduate research. Olivia worked with Dr. Sarah Vos on her research project “Future Medicial Providers’ Attitudes and Knowledge About Naloxone.”
CPH public health major Sara Dickens shares what she’s learned through undergraduate research. She’s worked with mentors Dr. Elizabeth Riley and Michael Cull, PhD, on her research project “Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement within the Child Welfare System.”
