After 31 years of service, Lexington Fire Department Chief Jason Wells announced his plans to retire in January. Chief Wells has done an incredible job for this city, making it a safer place to live. The impact of his leadership will live on through one of the top-ranked fire departments in the nation.

Lexington Community Corrections is proud to congratulate Chief Scott Colvin on his induction into the Kentucky Veteran's Hall of Fame.

Chief Colvin’s career has been defined by a lifetime of service. Before dedicating nearly four decades to the field of corrections, he proudly served eight years in the United States Marine Corps. The same values of leadership, discipline, commitment, and service that guided him as a Marine have remained evident throughout his distinguished career in public safety.

His induction is also a reminder of how fortunate we are to be part of the Lexington community. Public safety is a team effort, and we are proud to work alongside our partners throughout Lexington who share the same commitment to service, cooperation, and making our community stronger. Chief Colvin’s career reflects that spirit of working together and putting service above self.

This induction is a tremendous and well-deserved honor recognizing not only his military service, but a lifetime spent continuing to serve others.

We are proud to have him as OUR Chief.

Yesterday, Lexington Community Corrections joined members of our public safety community in a memorial stair climb to honor the lives forever changed on September 11, 2001.

We remember 25 years ago the 2,977 innocent lives lost that day. We honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, and countless others who answered the call to serve.

We also remember the men and women who served our nation in the Global War on Terror in the years that followed. Some returned home carrying wounds seen and unseen. Others never returned at all. Their service and sacrifice remain part of the legacy of September 11.

Please know: Our jail does not call family members on behalf of an inmate to request or collect bond money over the phone.

If you receive one of these calls:
- Do not provide personal or financial information.
- Do not send money, gift cards, or electronic payments.
- Hang up immediately.
- Do not trust caller ID, as scammers can disguise phone numbers.

Please help us protect our community by sharing this warning with others.

Yesterday, we proudly participated in the Lexington Truck Pull benefiting Special Olympics Kentucky. Teams raised money for an incredible organization, then put their strength and teamwork to the test by pulling an 80,000-pound truck in a timed competition. We entered a mens team and a co-ed team in the event.

We’re thrilled to share that our Corrections Men’s Team recorded the fastest time and took home the win!

It was a great day of community, camaraderie, and friendly competition. We’re grateful to everyone who organized, participated in, and supported this meaningful event.
..and yes, it feels pretty great to get our title back!

Lexington’s Public Safety Operations Center will conduct scheduled phone maintenance on Monday, August 10. Maintenance will take place from approximately 5 a.m. until 7 a.m. During the maintenance period, administrative phone lines to the Public Safety Operations Center and Enhanced 9-1-1, including (859) 258-3600 and (859) 258-5600, will be temporarily unreachable. For emergency calls, 9-1-1 lines will remain fully operational. Text to 9-1-1 service will also remain available. Residents needing to reach the administrative phone lines should call 9-1-1-, and calls will be directed appropriately.

From keeping our streets safe to answering the call in times of need, our commitment to our community reflects the very values of freedom, unity, and resilience that shaped this nation two and a half centuries ago.

Today, we join together as a community to remember the heroes who gave everything for our country. We hold a special place in our hearts for our own Delmar White who was kill while serving back in 2007. Let us never take our freedom for granted. We wish everyone a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day.

This week, we join the nation in observing National Police Week. It is a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and service of our law enforcement officers. We had the solemn honor of participating in today's wreath-laying ceremony. It was a moving reminder of the true cost of safety and the profound debt we owe to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

We are proud to work with the Lexington Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff's Office, KY, and all of our other partners in Lexington to keep our community safe. You are in our hearts and thoughts as we move through this week of remembrance.
