Our hearts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone hurt by the incident at Charles Young Park.

I am confident that justice will be served and those responsible will be held accountable.

This tragedy makes our commitment to our neighbors and neighborhoods even stronger. We will support those impacted, continue to support our community events, and work with our partners to find ways to make our parks and gatherings safer.

We will not let violence define our community. We will stand together, support one another and together find a path forward.

As Council’s summer break ends, I’m reminded of how important balance is — making time for rest, family, and still staying connected with the community that means so much to me.

I had the privilege of joining neighborhood day events, catching up with families, and listening to what’s needed in our neighborhoods. I also celebrated the ribbon cutting for the Family Care Center’s new nature based playground and participated in an advocacy training with the Kentucky Nonprofit Network to strengthen our partnerships with the nonprofits serving Lexington families every day.

I’m truly grateful for the meaningful work happening across our city and look forward to continuing these efforts as we move into the fall session.
