Good morning Lafayette County! Impact notices for real estate will be going out in today's mail. These notices only go out to owners whose assessed value increased by $100 or more. Please read the documentation in its entirety. If you have questions after that point please feel free to call our office to speak with our real estate department.

A sample of the notice that was mailed is included with this Facebook post.

Your impact notice explained:

Current appraised is your value this year.

Assessment percentage is the percent your appraised value is multiplied by to determine your assessed value. It is not the percent your property value increased. Current appraised value x 19%, 12%, or 32% will give you your current assessed value.

Current assessed is the amount you are taxed on.

On May 12, 1862 (158 years ago today), Colonel John D. Stevenson - Commanding Officer of the 7th Missouri Volunteer Infantry (US) marched his regiment out of the fortifications at College Hill (current day College Park - and the surrounding hospital campus) for a ceremony that was captured on camera and by pen. Local carriage maker Willard Mendenhall wrote about the event in his daily journal (typed here as written): “Col Stevenson regament is preparing to leave here. They had a grand dress parade, and the Union ladies presented the rigament with a fine silk flag, the ladies (fourteen in number) walked in procession to the Court House whare the presentation took place...”

Many thanks to drone expert Patrick Terry of US Aerial LLC for recreating the vantage point from which the original daguerreotype was taken. Please note - the 1862 presentation was performed and photographed in front of the 1850’s single story Lafayette County Clerk’s Office (present day Assessor and Recorder offices). #BattleOfLexingtonMO #CivilWar #ThenAndNow

Out of an abundance of caution, the Lafayette County Assessor's Office is implementing several temporary procedural shifts to ensure the safety of our staff and the general public. Starting today, we encourage folks who have not yet turned their 2020 Assessment Forms in to do so online as soon as possible (using the PIN provided on the form). In the spotlight of The Modesto Bee - what an honor! 😜
Really great job replacing the gravel on Walton Rd. NOT!! If you can't re surface our roads better than this, don't do it at all. Fire the people who are doing it now. Because they do not know what they're doing. These roads are dangerous. Tired of flat tires and damage to my vehicles because of incompetence.
Tried multiple times to send in my assessment using my pin number and it says that number can not be found!
It would be nice if the Assessor would return phone calls when asked. My daughter has contacted his office numerous times in the past two months, to discuss an important assessment issue and the Assessor has never returned her phone calls. He's never been in the office either, for that matter. Not good public service in my opinion.
