On the evening of Saturday, August 1, 2026, at approximately 8:00 PM, the Lexington Fire Department responded as mutual aid to the area of 84th Street and Duffy Road for a reported hay fire.

Upon arrival, crews found a significant fire involving a few hundred hay bales stored inside a covered barn, with additional hay bales and a neighboring pasture also burning. Firefighters worked alongside our mutual aid partners to bring the incident under control and prevent further spread.

Lexington Fire worked along side Town of Slaughterville, OK Slaughterville Fire Department, Noble Fire Department, Cedar Country Fire and Rescue CCFD, and Little Axe Fire Department to bring this fire under control.

Thank you to Rusty Grissom, Cleveland County Commissioner - D3 and his crew for bringing out some heavy equipment to assist.

We would also like to extend a very special thank you to the The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lexington Oklahoma Fire Department for making their first official emergency response in support of our firefighters. The Auxiliary delivered cold bottled water, electrolyte packets, and fresh hamburgers to crews working in the summer heat. Their generosity and support helped keep firefighters hydrated, fed, and ready to continue operations safely.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who answered the call and grateful for the support shown both on and off the fireground.

Smoke will remain visible in the area throughout the day.

🎉 Congratulations, Firefighter Drew Dierking! 🚒💦

Last night during our monthly training meeting, Firefighter Drew Dierking received a surprise "bucket of water" celebration from his Lexington Fire family in honor of an incredible milestone.

Drew has been selected to begin his career as a paid firefighter with a nearby department and we couldn't be more proud to see him take this next step.

From the day he joined Lexington Fire, Drew has demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and a passion for serving others. He has already proven himself as a firefighter, and we have no doubt he will continue to excel as he begins this exciting new chapter in his career.

A huge THANK YOU to Jacob Eli Mclain with Oklahoma Natural Gas for providing tonight's outstanding training to the members of the Lexington Fire Department.

This hands-on training focused on responding safely and effectively to natural gas leaks, helping our firefighters better understand gas emergencies, hazard recognition, scene safety, and the importance of working closely with utility personnel during these incidents.

We greatly appreciate Jacob taking the time to share his knowledge and experience with our department. Partnerships like these help ensure our firefighters are prepared to protect the citizens of Lexington while keeping themselves and those around them safe.

🚨 Storm Siren Testing Notice 🚨

The Lexington Fire Department would like to let everyone know that our outdoor warning sirens will be tested on Monday at 12:00 PM (Noon).

This is only a scheduled test to ensure our warning system is operating properly and ready when needed.

The Lexington Fire Department was dispatched to a reported hay bale fire involving approximately six hay bales burning on a trailer being pulled by a truck near 108th Street and Lewis Road.

Due to the extreme heat and current weather conditions, additional resources were requested from Cedar Country Fire and Rescue CCFD and Town of Slaughterville, OK Slaughterville Fire Department to ensure firefighter safety and bring the incident under control as quickly as possible.

We also appreciate the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office- OK for providing traffic control and helping keep the scene safe for responders and the traveling public.

The fire was successfully brought under control through the teamwork and professionalism of all agencies involved.

A special thank you goes to Wadley's EMS for monitoring firefighters for heat exhaustion and providing on-scene medical support during these challenging conditions.

We are grateful for the strong partnerships we share with our mutual aid agencies. Working together allows us to provide the highest level of service and safety for our community.

🔥 HEAT SAFETY ALERT – LEXINGTON AREA 🔥

Dangerous heat is expected to return to Oklahoma this week, with heat index values ("feels like" temperatures) potentially reaching 115–120°F across portions of the state by mid-week.

Please take a few minutes to protect yourself, your family, and your neighbors:

☀️ Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. 🏠 Limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
❄️ Take frequent breaks in air conditioning if working outside.
👴 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and those without reliable cooling. 🐶 Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade. Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle—even for a minute.
🚒 Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and call 911 immediately if someone shows signs of heat stroke.

The Lexington Fire Department encourages everyone to take this heat seriously. A few simple precautions can prevent heat-related emergencies.
