Did you know? If you're cooking food at home for a festival, you're already breaking the rules.

Setting up a food stand at a community event in Lexington-Fayette County? Before you fire up the stove, here's what you need to know:

🚫 Food prepped in a home kitchen can't be sold or served at public events — no exceptions.
📞 You need a Temporary Food Service Permit, and you must notify our office at least 48 hours before the event: (859) 231-9791
🔥 No same-day permits or inspections. If you haven't called ahead, you can't set up.

We'd rather help you get it right than shut you down on event day. Call our Environmental Health office at (859) 231-9791 before you start cooking — we'll walk you through what you need.

"Give Them the Words" — Talking to Your Kids About Guns

"Geo” Gibson, founder of Operation Making a Change, helps you talk to your kids about guns. Children are naturally curious. That's why it's so important to talk to them about fi****ms before they encounter one. Learn age-appropriate ways to prepare your kids — from simple four-step rules for young children to safety plans for teens.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LFCHD) presents “Let’s Lock It Lex,” a LexCHIP community initiative promoting safe firearm storage to help protect children and families. Free gun locks are available, no questions asked, in the LFCHD lobby while supplies last.

🎉Supporting Local Families❤️

Shop for a Cause is an opportunity to support local families by donating essential baby items. The Community Engagement and Community Education teams will be on site collecting donations to help reduce diaper need in our community.

Requested items:📣
➡️•Diapers (newborn to size 7)
➡️•Pull-ups
➡️•Baby wipes
➡️•Baby detergent
➡️•Gift cards

⏰Saturday, June 20
8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍Kroger
3101 Richmond Road

Diaper need is both a financial and health issue. Without enough diapers, children are at greater risk for diaper rash, skin irritation, and urinary tract infections due to prolonged diaper use. Diapers are also a major household expense, and most assistance programs do not cover them.

Your donation helps reduce financial strain, prevent avoidable health concerns, and support child wellness in our community.

Stop by and donate if you are able. Every contribution helps support local families in need.

One of the most important conversations parents can have is about gun safety.

Our Let’s Lock It Lex guides make it easier to ask the right questions when your child goes to a friend’s house — and to answer them when others visit yours.

They Work All Shifts⏰
Morning person or night owl? Mosquitoes don't care. Mosquitoes bite day and night, so your protection needs to work around the clock too. Reach for an EPA-registered repellent with DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus — when used as directed, these are proven safe and effective.

LFCHD wants to help keep you safe this summer — don't let the buzzkillers win. 🙅

🔒 Let's Lock It Lex 🔒
We're excited to continue the rollout of Let's Lock It Lex, our campaign focused on increasing access to free gun locks and promoting safe firearm storage throughout Lexington.
As part of our pilot phase, 10 trusted community locations have volunteered to serve as distribution sites and are currently offering free gun locks while supplies last.
🔴Davis Park Workforce Center
🔴Carolyn’s Crown & Glory Hair Salon LLC
🔴Green Acres Shelter
🔴Share Center
🔴The Voyage Movement
🔴Exhilarating Inc.
🔴Cardinal Valley
🔴Well Groomed Barbershop
🔴Final Cuts
🔴Urban Cutz

We are grateful to these community partners for helping make firearm safety resources more accessible across our Lexington.

In addition to these community distribution sites, free gun locks are also available at the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department – no questions asked.

A special thank you to the organizations that generously donated gun locks to support this important initiative:
• Be SMART
• Kentucky State Police
• Moms Demand Action
• New Vista
• Safe Kids
• Veterans Affairs Office

This campaign is a true example of what can be accomplished when community organizations come together with a shared commitment to safety. Together, we are helping promote responsible firearm storage and creating safer homes and neighborhoods for everyone.
