🚍 Let’s Talk School Bus Safety, Liberal!
We’ve recently seen an increase in drivers not following the Kansas School Bus Stop Arm Law, and that’s something we need to fix — together.
Here’s your quick refresher:
🟡 When you see amber (yellow) lights flashing, that’s your warning. The bus is about to stop. This is your cue to slow down and prepare to stop.
🔴 When the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, you must come to a complete stop. No passing. No squeezing by. No “I can make it.” Just stop.
And yes — that includes drivers approaching from the opposite direction because students may be crossing the street.
Our bus drivers do an incredible job navigating our streets, weather, traffic, and busy school zones every single day. They carry some of our community’s most precious cargo. They deserve drivers around them who are paying attention and following the law.
The safety of our students will always be our top priority from the moment they step onto the bus until they arrive safely at school or back home.
Please take a few minutes to review and refresh yourself on the law, and stay alert around buses and school buildings.
Let’s all do our part and make sure every child gets to and from school safely.
