From the Mayor.
I wanted to address both the residents and those who purchase water through the Village of Liberty Center regarding the current water situation on the Maumee River.
I want to assure everyone our drinking water is of the upmost importance to the village and we are will always do everything in our power to make sure the water is safe, as well as keep the public informed on any activity regarding the water. I did meet with our water superintendent first thing this morning to make sure we didn't receive any new alerts from the EPA before I made this announcement.
First and foremost, our water is completely safe to drink and utilize. In 2022 we switched all of our water purchase to the city of Bowling Green, and they have assured us there has been no contamination where their river intake is. When Bowling Green pulls in water from the Maumee River, it first goes into a giant reservoir where both the city and the EPA test for ammonia and nitrate levels. Once the water has passed inspection then it heads to their cleaning and filtering facility. After the city treats the water and is distributed to those who purchase it from them including Liberty Center, the village then puts it through one or two more processes (such as aeration) before it arrives at our tower to again ensure it is safe to consume before it reaches you.
We are keeping a very close on eye on this and if we have any changes, I assure the public, we will keep you informed. As always, if you have any questions at all, please reach out to me.
Also, to answer another question we have received recently is, "why doesn't the village put information up on different Facebook sites anymore?" The reason why myself or village representatives do not do this is because it violates Sunshine Laws. If it is not an official village page, then there could be members of the public who may not have access to a specific private page for any given reason. This is why we have to keep all official village announcements or business on village official pages.
Thank you
