Smithville Police Department Continues Investigation into the Suspicious Death.

As part of the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of Ryan Weeks, the Smithville Police department has partnered with investigators from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Liberty Police Department, the North Kansas City Police Department, the Excelsior Springs Police Department and the FBI to process new leads and evidence in this case.

The Smithville Police Department is dedicated to finding the facts surrounding this case and bringing it to a conclusion for Ryan and his family.

The Smithville Police Department would also ask anyone who has any information relevant to this case to contact us, their local law enforcement agency, or to contact The Kansas City Metro Crime Stoppers. Anonymous information could result in a cash reward of up to $2000.00

🚓 Now that’s a pretty cool ride to school! 🚓

After winning a police ride to school at Lillian Schumacher Elementary’s Family Fun Night, Kinsley got the VIP treatment Friday morning with SRO Serna behind the wheel!

Kinsley and SRO Serna had a great time together, and we’re not sure who enjoyed the ride more! 💙

Yesterday, we reminded everyone not to drive impaired. Unfortunately, a couple of people didn’t get the message.

Last night, our officers arrested one driver for DWI involving drugs. Then, at 8:30 this morning, officers arrested another driver for the same thing. Yes, you read that correctly!! Driving impaired at 8:30 AM!!!

Impaired driving isn’t limited to alcohol. Drugs can impair your judgment, reaction time, and ability to safely operate a vehicle too.

Whether it’s alcohol or drugs, getting behind the wheel impaired puts everyone on the road at risk.

Driving impaired just isn’t cool. Make better choices.

Happy First Day of School! 💙📚

They really do grow up fast! 😢 Today marks SRO Serna’s first day serving as a School Resource Officer with Liberty Public Schools.

She spent the summer preparing for her new assignment by training alongside Cpl. Cronin and meeting administrators and staff throughout the district. She’s excited to get to know the students, families, and school community as the year gets underway.

We hope all of our students, teachers, and staff have a great first day back! Here’s to a safe, successful, and fun school year!

Keeping our streets safe from impaired drivers remains a priority. On Saturday night, our officers arrested three people for DWI in less than two hours.

If your plans include drinking, make your plan to get home before the night begins. There are plenty of options:

✔️ Designate a sober driver
✔️ Use a rideshare service
✔️ Call a cab
✔️ Arrange for a friend or family member to pick you up

Driving impaired is never worth the risk. A few minutes of planning can prevent a crash, an arrest, or a tragedy.
