John Cherry
John was born in Highland County, Ohio on November 23, 1808. He came to Texas with his father, Aaron Cherry in 1818 and settled near a Coushatta Native American village. In 1838 he was commissioned by President Sam Houston to act as an interpreter for Native Americans in a treaty parley.
He was also a soldier in Captain William Logan’s company, 2nd regiment, Volunteers in the Texas war for independence in 1836. He received 2 Texas land grants.
He was married 3 times and had a total of 14 sons and 7 daughters. He died on April 12, 1891 at the age of 82.
