💧 Friday Lake Liberty Update

Unfortunately, Lake Liberty has taken a step back over the last two weeks. When I last reported, the lake was sitting around 15 feet below full pool. Today’s measurements show we’re back to approximately 16 feet below full pool.

We’ve had very little rainfall over the past couple of weeks, paired with some pretty hot days. Pumping continues 24 hours a day, bringing in around 800,000 gallons daily, while water usage has been averaging around 1.3 million gallons per day.

It’s not the update we’d hoped for, but this is exactly why conservation continues to be so important. Every gallon we can save helps give the lake and the pumping operation a little more ground to work with.

We’ll continue monitoring levels closely and keeping you updated. Thank you, as always, for doing your part.

Friday Lake Update 💧

Encouraging progress at Lake Liberty this week as levels rose another half foot! While we’re thankful for the improvement, conservation remains very important as the lake is still 15 feet below full pool.

You’ll notice barriers and caution tape around the lake to prevent people from driving into the lake bed. Please remember that Lake Liberty is currently not safe for boating.

The City of Liberty is asking all citizens to please stay off the exposed lake bed at Lake Liberty. Due to the extremely low water levels, the lake bed may be unstable and unsafe for vehicles.

At this time, Lake Liberty is not suitable for boating. Please do not attempt to launch or operate boats on the lake.

We also ask everyone to continue conserving water whenever possible. Every effort to reduce water usage helps protect our remaining water supply.

📢 Lake Liberty Road Gate:

The gate to Lake Liberty is now open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Please use caution while traveling around the lake. In a few areas, the pipe being used to pump water is positioned close to the roadway, so pay close attention and drive carefully.

📸 New cameras have also been installed throughout the area for monitoring. Please be respectful of Lake Liberty, the property, and the pipeline as we continue working to protect our community’s water supply.

Lake Liberty continues to hold steady this week, measuring approximately 15.5 feet below full pool.

While the lake level remains stable, it is still critically low. We ask everyone to please continue conserving water whenever possible. Every effort, big or small, helps protect our water supply.

Working Together for Liberty & Casey County 🤝💧

During tonight’s Liberty City Council meeting, the partnership that made pumping water from the Green River possible was recognized.

This critical project was made possible through a shared commitment from three local partners, with each contributing $77,000:

City of Liberty — $77,000
Casey County Judge/Executive Randy Dial & Casey County Fiscal Court — $77,000
Casey County Economic Development Authority — $77,000

During the meeting, the Casey County EDA presented its $77,000 contribution to Mayor Dr. Sam Haddad and members of the Liberty City Council.

The City of Liberty, Casey County Judge Executive Randy Dial and Fiscal Court, and the Casey County EDA each stepped up when our community needed it. Together, these contributions made pumping water from the Green River possible and provided much needed support for our community’s water supply.

💧 Friday Lake Update

Lake Liberty has risen approximately one foot since pumping from the Green River began on July 13. While this is encouraging progress, the lake remains at a critical level and conservation is still necessary.

Today, the City of Liberty celebrated the retirement of Jeff Wethington after an incredible 35 years of dedicated service.

Since joining the City Maintenance Department in 1991, Jeff has played an important role in keeping our community running day after day. Over the years, he’s seen countless changes, tackled every challenge imaginable, and, without a doubt, has enough stories to fill a book.

Jeff’s commitment, hard work, and willingness to serve the people of Liberty have left a lasting impact on our city. We are incredibly grateful for his decades of service and the example he has set for those who will follow.

Please join us in congratulating Jeff on his well-earned retirement and thanking him for 35 years of dedication to the City of Liberty. We wish him many years of happiness, good health, and time to enjoy this next chapter. Congratulations, Jeff!

Friday Lake Update 💧

We’re happy to report that lake levels have risen slightly this week, and our goal now is to continue maintaining that progress.

Water usage is still averaging 1.2–1.3 million gallons per day. As we head into August, historically one of our hottest and driest months—continued conservation is critical to protecting the progress we’ve made.

Friday Lake Update 💧

This week brought some encouraging news. Lake Liberty has risen approximately half a foot since last week and is now sitting about 16 feet below full pool. We’re also now pumping water from Green River 24 hours a day, bringing in around 700,000 gallons daily.

We’re thankful for the recent rainfall and know many of you are seeing the pumps running and wondering if we’re out of the woods. While these are all positive steps, we’re not there yet.

Our community is currently using about 1.3 million gallons of water each day—still significantly more than we’re able to pump into the system. To help keep the lake from dropping any further, we need to get our daily usage back down to around 1.0–1.1 million gallons per day, where we were before pumping began.

With the lake still 16 feet low and one of the hottest months of the year just ahead, continuing to conserve is incredibly important. We know it isn’t always easy, but getting through August without losing ground on our lake level is a major goal.

Every gallon saved truly makes a difference. Thank you for continuing to do your part and helping protect our community’s water supply.
