Rest in Peace, Vern Hyatte

It is with heavy hearts that we recognize the passing of Vernon “Vern” Gene Hyatte Jr., a dedicated firefighter, brother in the fire service, and friend.

Vern devoted 27 years of service to the Liberty Township Fire Department and was a proud 50-year member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association. His commitment to serving others reflects the very best of the fire service — dedication, selflessness, and a willingness to be there when others need you.

A life spent in service leaves a legacy that extends far beyond the years served. Vern was part of a brotherhood that understands the sacrifices, friendships, and bonds that come with answering the call. His years of dedication will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Vern’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters as they navigate this difficult loss. While we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved wife, Janet, whom he missed so dearly.

Rest easy, Vern. Thank you for your years of service, your dedication to the fire service, and the legacy you leave behind. You have answered your final call.

May you rest in peace, brother.

Fire Prevention Week 2026 - Liberty

On Friday, Members of LTVFD taught another round of fire prevention at Liberty Elementary School. Many young prospects in the crowd on Friday!

Residents over the age of 18 can apply to be a volunteer firefighter with LTVFD.

Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department serves all of unincorporated Liberty and Jackson Townships.
