🧯 Know the PASS Method—Be Ready Before a Fire Happens 🧯
A portable fire extinguisher can help stop a small, contained fire before it spreads—but only if you know how to use it safely.
The Liberty Fire Department encourages everyone to remember the PASS method:
🅿️ P – Pull the pin to unlock the extinguisher.
🎯 A – Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, not the flames.
💨 S – Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent.
↔️ S – Sweep the nozzle from side to side at the base of the fire until it is completely out.
⚠️ Safety Reminders:
• Only use a fire extinguisher on small, contained fires if you have a clear escape route behind you.
• If the fire is growing rapidly, producing heavy smoke, or you are unsure how to use the extinguisher, evacuate immediately.
• Never turn your back on a fire after using an extinguisher. If it begins to grow again, leave the area.
📞 Always call 9-1-1, even if you believe the fire has been extinguished. Hidden hot spots can reignite, and firefighters can ensure the fire is completely out and your home is safe.
Being prepared before an emergency happens can protect your family, your home, and your community.
Stay prepared. Stay safe.
