Please use caution when traveling Highway 178 near the Pickens County Airport as construction vehicles move fill dirt beginning this week. This is expected to take approximately 3-4 weeks. After construction, the contractor will seed and stabilize the area. Residents may see a plan of the completed project at the LQK Airport Playground. We look forward to an improved ramp space coming soon!

Today was bittersweet, Chief Rowland worked his last day as Fire Chief. He thought he was gonna sneak out today but we surprised him. We got to send him off and thank him for the many years and dedication he gave the fire service and Liberty community. He will never know how much he has meant to us over the years and how his leadership inspired all of us to be better men and firefighters. We will see you around Chief, we will always have coffee for you! We love you and enjoy retirement!

As the result of tornadoes that recently touched down in Pickens County, the landfill has accepted 516 tons of storm debris in under two weeks compared to its usual average of 75 tons per week. This has caused the landfill to have an excess of mulch that needs to be moved. Free mulch is available at the Pickens County Landfill (2043 Old Liberty Road, Liberty) on Wednesdays from 1-4 pm and on Thursdays and Fridays from 8 am – 12 pm and 1 pm – 4 pm. Loading assistance is available.
