Just a reminder — despite some rainfall across parts of Casey County, especially in the southern portion of the county, we are still not out of the woods regarding our water situation.

For reference, at the time of this post, the Lake Liberty watershed has only received around 0.04” of rain, which is not considered meaningful rainfall for improving lake levels. Low water conditions are still very much present.

Additional rainfall remains in the forecast, and we are hopeful the Lake Liberty watershed receives a good amount to help ease the burden of the low water levels.

We ask everyone to please continue practicing water conservation efforts until the City of Liberty notifies the public that conditions have improved.

Every little bit helps, and we appreciate everyone doing their part.

Any questions about the water situation can be directed to the City of Liberty or East Casey Water.

— Thanks,

The City of Liberty would like to remind residents that our area is currently experiencing drought conditions. Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing simple ways everyone can help conserve water.

Today’s tip: Check your water meter and plumbing for leaks. Even small leaks can waste a large amount of water over time. If your meter continues to move when no water is being used, you may have a leak that needs attention.

Thank you for helping protect our community’s water supply.

Due to ongoing dry weather conditions, lake levels in our area remain lower than normal. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, much of Casey County is currently classified in Extreme Drought conditions.

Local water officials and city leadership continue working together to closely monitor the situation and plan ahead. At this time, there are NO mandatory water restrictions in place.

However, voluntary water conservation efforts by the community can make a big difference.

We encourage everyone to:
• Check for leaking toilets, faucets, and pipes
• Farmers: regularly inspect livestock watering troughs and float valves
• Businesses: check restrooms and equipment for leaks or unnecessary water use
• Take shorter showers and avoid unnecessary water waste
• Only run full loads of laundry and dishes when possible
• Consider using air conditioner and dehumidifier condensation water for plants and gardens

Small actions by everyone can help reduce unnecessary water use and protect our community water supply during this dry period.

As with any emergency situation, residents are always encouraged to maintain basic emergency supplies at home, including drinking water, flashlights, batteries, medications, and other essential items.

Thank you for doing your part and helping Casey County conserve water.

Any questions can be directed to the City of Liberty or East Casey Water.

Please remember that Casey County Emergency Management does not operate or regulate local water systems. Our role is to assist local officials and support emergency response efforts when needed. Questions regarding water usage, billing, restrictions, leaks, or system operations should be directed to your local water provider.

Lake levels are lower than normal, and we are continuing to monitor conditions.

Local officials have been in communication regarding the current water situation and will continue to coordinate as needed.

At this time, there are no restrictions in place, but we encourage residents to be mindful of their water usage.

Simple steps—like limiting outdoor watering and fixing leaks—can help protect our water supply.

We are proud to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of the 2026 AED Grant from the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation.

With the wide range of incidents and responses we are involved in, it is great to know we have another valuable tool to help save lives in our community.

An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is a device used to help restart a person’s heart during a sudden cardiac arrest. It checks the heart rhythm and, if needed, delivers a shock to help get the heart beating normally again.
