Our Arlington Heights Road project crews are prepping for final asphalt surfacing! Weather permitting, crews anticipate completing final asphalt paving, activating the new traffic signals, and implementing the roadway's final traffic pattern by the end of June. Congratulations to Kevin Weakley on 15 years of service with Lake County!

Kevin is a Road Foreman, leading a crew that performs essential work across Lake County, including concrete and asphalt repairs, structure replacement, tree and guardrail work, ditching, culvert replacement and landscaping.

Kevin also serves as a Snow and Ice Callout Foreman, where he constantly monitors conditions, provides updates to our team and gathers information to help keep operations running smoothly during the winter.

Fun fact: Kevin is also a major contributor to our LCDOT Facebook and Instagram pages! He regularly shares updates and photos to keep all of you informed about what’s happening on our roads. He even captured one of the coolest storm photos we’ve featured over the years.

We are grateful for Kevin’s dedication, expertise and leadership, and we congratulate him on this milestone anniversary!

Improvements to Deerfield Road are starting later this year! Last week, the Lake County Board approved a set of resolutions authorizing construction.

More than 10 years in the making, the project is designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion during peak travel times, expand stormwater management infrastructure and improve non-motorized connectivity.

The project includes the reconstruction of Deerfield Road, intersection improvements at IL 21, Portwine Road and Saunders/Riverwoods Road and a three-lane curbed roadway from the Des Plaines River to Saunders/Riverwoods Road with a multi-use path and drainage improvements

Champion! This week, more than 25 county and municipal competitors came together to compete in the APWA Chicago Metro Backhoe challenge, and Lake County’s own Kevin Wilkins took home 1st place!🏆

Competitors were tested on various challenges that are designed to test the operator's capabilities, skills and knowledge of the machine. Kevin will now advance to compete at the National Equipment Roadeo later this year.

Backhoes are one of the most important tools transportation departments use every day. From repairing roads and culverts to clearing storm damage, digging trenches and responding to emergencies, these machines help crews keep roads safe and projects moving efficiently. Operating them safely and accurately takes training, experience and skill, and competitions like this showcase the professionalism and skill behind the work our crews perform year-round.

Congratulations, Kevin, and best of luck at nationals!

LCDOT has begun a study of Gages Lake Road from US 45 to IL 21 that will look at ways to improve safety, traffic operations, and walking/biking access in the area.
